So. Okay. If I got moray..which seems to be quite ...well..cool for the
pov genre of 3d...not soo cool compared to some other apps.
But Is it freeware?...shareware?
And if shareware..after the 30 day..do you have to register it..or do
they allow you to still use it, but for non-commercial only?
Plus..I'm very very new to this POV stuff.
What do they mean by Hand coded?
people keep saying they hand coded the model...instead of modelling it.
I dunno...seems kinda dumb sounding. Are they programming their
modells?...That seems kind of ineffecient. And, well...stupid in some
ways seeing how modelling is a lot better than going at the model with
code..more artistic abilities would take presidence with visual
modelling.
But I'm just guessing this is what they meant by hand coding.
thanks

Moray starts giving you notice about registering it after 30 days if I remember right.
The "hand-coding" is simply what POV-Ray is all about when used alone to model with.
It
is possible and many people do it this way; I have a virtually modellor free personal
gallery at: http://members.aol.com/iotadot/gallery1.htm
(meaning one piece of a object contains a sPatch-made POV-Ray bicubic_patch output
shape)

Since this a Moray newsgroup I'll go easy on ya' :-) . I consider
myself
a hand-coder. And the reason I hand code is because I can't stand
fighting
a modeller to put my object where I want, how I want. I figure by the
time
I select the shape I want and add a texture in a modeller I could just
as
easily have typed it in. In fact I don't even do a lot of typing because
I
can select pre-defined shapes and textures etc. from the Insert menu.
I don't have anything against modellers it's just a matter of personal
taste.
As far as visualising goes, after a while you just kind of imagine what
the code will give you. (One of these days I'll have to try coding an
object
without rendering until it's completed, just to test my visualisation)

The pre-conceived idea about "artistic=visual" must be heavily beaten !
Moray is a fine tool, but if you are a beginner, I strongly recommend
that you make good contact with "pure" Pov, before trying to use a
modeller.
If you skip that, you will never be able to take full potential from Pov
and Moray together...
Fabien.
