Hmmmmm, I've just tried virtualdub ... it doesn't show the DV codecs
in it's list ... I think this is because virtualdub only supports
Video for Windows codecs ... I believe it needs to use DirectShow for
it to create .avi files with the newer codecs like DV.

(Interestingly, it is possible to get virtualdub to read DirectShow
.avi files using this

Oh well, back to the drawing board!
