When I was working I loved having WinVote available on one of my
machines so I could go through and vote and comment the rounds easily.
Now that I'm unemployed and using an iMac here at home, I am using
Python to create a program similar to WinVote for the Mac.

The silly part is I can't find the template form for voting on the IRTC
web site or ftp site. I don't have the email of my previous voting
submissions either. Can someone post them or point me to them please?

Thanks

  Try this one:

    ftp://ftp.irtc.org/pub/stills/2001-04-30/winvote/2001-04-30.txt

it's the file template for the previous round. I think there is no
"general" template, but as structure doesn't change from round to round,
you can work from this one to create the file for each round, looking at
the local images directory where the user must have previously
downloaded the images for that round.

And, it will be called MacVote? :)

Thanks. I'm calling it MacVote, and I need talk to the creator of WinVote to
see if I'll be stepping on anyone toes.

I'm having difficulty finding a jpg and mpeg translator in Python, and I'm
not savvy enough to make one, so this isn't going to be available in time
for the next rounds. I'm hoping by the next round I will have something
available for the Mac users out there.

Hi Josh,
Here is the format I use for WinVote.
The paragraphs for the comments are simply one long line terminated with
the DOS "CR", "LF" pair.

I am looking forward to a welcomed MacVote. If you have any questions
just email me.

This looks like a winner to me. I especially like the work on the car.
Sometimes are should make a political statement and this is a powerful one.

Thanks Bob, I've had a few delays in the development, like getting married on
the 14th of July, moving, and job hunting, but I hope to get back to it very
soon.

I'm a Python programmer, although not at the Mac platform - but if you need
any help, just ask.

What are you using for the GUI?

I'm using W widgets for the GUI control. TKinter on the Mac doesn't work as
well as it's advertised. Right now I'm stuck finding a way to get Python (and
it's probably a Quicktime thing from W widgets) to read a .jpg file

On Windows and Unix, there's a library called PIL (Python Imaging Library)
that works well. Not sure if it will run fine on the Mac, though.

Here's the link:

Hi there,
I'm Simon, you might remember me, I tried a few weeks/months ago to build a
little game that needed Pov graphics and finally gave up...

Well anyway, here I am! And I'm a pretty good C++ programmer and could most
probably make a voting program for Linux...

Many tools are already made on Linux to visualize graphics such as JPEGs so I
could just call those programs to read some files, then do the same for MPEGs...

But I could also do it as a CGI program that would be available to any
platform on a website and that this script would be intelligent enough to make
you download all pictures and all movies at once while you vote... You would
simply need to have the appropriate plugin to play MPEG-1 and make sure you have
your Cache set high enough or it will have to download some files again...

I believe only the ones that know Linux can have comment on my linux part of
this message, but I'm sure all of you can have comments on the CGI part...
