Do I start ginning up for another IRTC round (April-July), or do I go
find something else to do?

Regards,
John

I for one have harldy got started on the space colony (with house move and
arm breakages getting in the way) - I'd love to finish it 'cos I quite like
my idea even if my rendering/modelling isn't upto it. Though if folks want
to move on to another topic I'd guess I'd follow.

.... though we seem to be lacking a competition infrastructure ... I'm
tempted now things are settling down at home just to write one myself and
host it in my shed.

Same here (minus the house move and arm breakages ... ;)

Why not move the timeframe for the somehow-interim "Space
Settlement" topic to May 1st? (and keep following topic with
a 3- or 4-months timeframe, so that it falls together with
every other stills competition?)

That would be great! With the IRTC it feels like it's still
the same situation: only thing missing is some web home and
someone that declares a topic every now and then ;)

I must admit i've even put something up on YouTube (two
older samples of vfx's i made for a small faerytale parody)
- man, i thought the MPEG compression loss for the IRTC was
bad, but ... you know, YouTube flash video ... yuck... and
already got 165 visitors (and a comment! Wow...). Odd. I'm
still uneasy with YouTube's "we can use your stuff for our
promotion anytime anywhere" rules...

Well, now that we have come to the realization that irtc will not take
another breath of cyber air. I would be willing to collaborate on a web
site with anyone. And, will go as far as buying a domain name and server
time.
I would invest a hundred bucks or so to make it happen........Markus---John.
There have been some great ideas for scripts coming out of the stills
newsgroup.

What do you think..................

Thanks Steve --
I have been reading the stills group, and it sounds like you have it under
control.
Hope you don't leave out the animation guys, on your new site.
I am willing to help out.
Darin

I'd suggest that for now, we go with Steve's offer to host the animation
files together with the stills pictures.

Quoting from irtc.stills (Steve's posting):

-> If i read this right, this would set the end date around April
30th/May 1st, so there's some more time to add that extra polish to your
animation...

-> I really like the idea with the 1.000 (or so ;) book titles and the
POVray random draw that Greg Johnson posted earlier, too. Anyone wants
to draw up the next topic?

-> how about overlapping the announcement of the next topic with the
current round? (like, announcing the topic one, two, four weeks early?)

Opinions?

Ah, cool. Ok, this is fine with me, and as you all might know by now, I'm
getting quite excited about playing with animations myself, time permitting,
and thanks to you and others Markus, I will get that merry-go-round working
correctly. I know that what I have planned is all circular, but my dream is
to do a fly-through around the carousel (up and down) with Poser figures sat
on the horses or in a some kind of cart too. Should be fun doing it! :o)

This is what we'll be using for the Stills topics, and I think it will
work great for the Anims too. It's a wonderful idea, and I really thank Greg
for this great idea too. It will work just fine. With this method, everyone
will be challenged to produce their INTERPRETATION of the title of an old
'known' book (whether we know of that title or not). I think this will
produce diverse Stills/Anims that will be certainly more interesting than
following a unique topic. I think this idea will really get some minds
thinking first before prodding finger-to-key.

Next topic? Sure: "The Black Robe" by Wilkie Collins - 1824-1889.

   (Pulled via "The Hat")

  Set your imagination alight...

Well, the way that this website is working out at the moment is that
when the end of a round arrives, the next topic will be 'live' on the 1st of
the next month/topic. Would this be ok with both Stills and Anims?

Also, about the Anims, what would you guys prefer? Would you want an
extra month to develop your animations so that everything ties in with the
Stills for viewing? (So, instead of 4 anims a year, it would be 3?)

Thanks for your input Markus, all, it's very much appreciated.

    ~Steve~

And of course, I meant a few others around here too - all positive
thoughts on something that's good for our community and souls, are good and
*much* appreciated!

Yes, I do believe I have so far. Let's just get through these first
few months and hopefully everything will be fine and settled by then.

> Hope you don't leave out the animation guys, on your new site.

*Our* new site Darin. This isn't for me, this is for 'Us' - the 3D
graphics community that *we know* and love. Animations WILL be on this site,
I promise, it's just that I've got to twist this guy Colin's arm a little to
get it right, so bear with me for a short while. Colin? He's the guy that's
doing this for us along with my help, (he's not into 3D graphics at all, but
has been creating websites for the last 15 years - you should see him on his
keyboard, I've not seen anything like it - it's just a blur as he moves
around it, seriously. The chap knows his stuff and he's a nice guy toboot).

> I am willing to help out.

I/We know that Darin, thanks, and I think we all appreciate any help
that we can get around here. For now though, just play around with your Anim
and relax - I/We want to see it. :o)

        Regs,

      ~Steve~

Oh! Drat. Couldn't it have been the "Moonstone" or "The lady in White" by Wilkie
Collins? I've read them. And the Moonstone gives lots of scope; India, Fakirs,
Robinson Crusoe, Napoleon etc.

Regards
