Yes, I knew about that, but do the photons adjust adequately when 
loading a lowres map at a higher resolution? Since I'm already loading a 
map, more photons won't be shot. Will the scene still render the same 
result or will it be spotty in some way?

The obvious answer is to try it, I know...I'm in the process of doing 
that, but it's taking a while. My scene has been running for 8 hrs 
already at 25% of full-size and it's only just over 50% complete. It's 
taken about three hours to progress 6%. It'll be a while before I can 
run it at a higher resolution (which will itself probably take several 
days).
