No photons present. The light beam simply goes up to the reflecting box and
stops, as it will do when without photon mapping. But that isn't the trouble
with this, turns out to be 'intervals' for some reason.
What is seen in the image (it hasn't been cancelled yet) is the beam
projecting onto the side of the mirrored box and we see that reflection.
Just not anything on the before-reflected side where the beam enters the
other light source shadow.
Try adding intervals 9 in front of scattering (at least more than the total
number of lights) and you will see the laser extend farther.
This seems peculiar though, since intervals is now automatic for the most
part and probably shouldn't be having this sort of affect. I'm not certain
of that.
Regardless, ultimately photons are going to be needed to bounce the beam
off.
