Povray 3.5 is only 1 month old, and there is already so much patches!!!
At this rate, even starting to think about 4.0 is a lost of time: by the
time the first decision is made, there would be a huge amount of patches...

(first part got lost :-( )

+++ an "RenderaAgent 2" which will automatically force POV-Ray to the
taskbar :-). (minimize)

> In example I don't want to forbid to login other users during
rendering.

+++ Is not necessary. At the moment you have to be logged on and POV-Ray
must be running.

+++ Under Windows XP you have more options cause you can have one users
programms running while

+++ another user is logged on. The second user cannot see what programs
the first user has running.

> What is priority of started pov-ray instance ?

+++ There is a Button "Low Prio." If you press it, the POV Process has
LOW Priority (under W2k at least).

> How agent behaves when povray crashes during parsing/rendering ?

+++ If the PC crashes, Agent may try a recover.

+++ IF ONLY the POV process is ended, the RenderAgent thinks POV Ray has
ended (what is infact the case) and continues

+++ so in the later case you have to redo that Job.

> How could I try it withot knowing if I shoud start something ;-)

+++ Download the archive, start the "SMPOV1.exe" it will unpack to all
the necessary files and the Readme.txt.

+++ Currently not, I did not need that till now.

+++ Try the program and find out if you really need more options. Then
we talk about it for version 2.

+++ Its thinkable that there will be another RenderAgent in a few weeks
(minimize-Feature?).

> How it behave when some agent would be lost/unplugged ?

+++ Each Agent has 4 Slots. If you plan to "unplug" an Agent, you must
first unplug the Slots,

+++ then wait till he is ready with the current Job, then you can reboot
or do whatever.

+++ If you reboot while the Agent is "busy", you must re-start the agent
after the reboot (for an automatic cleanup)

+++ otherwise your pic would not be complete.

+++ I can understand that. Just ask. Its your good right to know all
necessary before running an "unknownn exe".

+++ Do the following: Run SMPOV.exe on your Main-PC and run ! instance
of Renderagen on any other PC of your choice.

+++ Remember to share the COM Folder so he is accessible.

+++ Then first try to understand the system with 1 running RenderAgent.
You'll find it quite simpel after that.

+++ Then after some time you can put as many Renderagents everywhere in
your network where you think they are in place.

database-server.

+++ Ok, if its your company. (I know ABB ... But Hmmm ABX ???)

Reading sources could help :-)

+++ Come here and read em, my adress is on the web-site.

+++ I did that in the past. But in that case I did not want to code but
get results,

+++ so I choose PB for the Project.

+++ Small, strong, no installation necessary. Inline ASM when needed.
Multithreading ...

+++ 128 kb as a result. You can put ten copies on a Floppy-Disk.

+++ Thats code from me.

+++ Short code ... Hmm maybe I should do some funny thing and post the
code for the render-agent here ... its only a few pages.

+++ But I guess thats OFF-topic ...

If you do it don't forget to announce it to be included in

+++But its not a patch. You'll have to announce it in \Add-On's :-)

Patches ...
I don't like patches so much, cause they interfere in a well tested system.

Then often you should have test on the whole system to be shure it works.

So I decided to make an "Add-On". It does not manipulate anything in
POV 3.5 - just takes it as an Employee ...

So you can take This Add-On as YOUR employee.

Sources are even younger.

There is only 6 patches but multiplied by categorization.

I have list of about ten patches to do but I'm limited becouse can't setup my
favourite enviroment at home. I wonder if I should add place to my site where
people could add requests and own plans.

Should patch writers stop ?

I don't have Windows XP. I have a few admins and each one login for his tasks.
I don't want each user to be logged all the time. I don't want to not use
power when nobody is logged.

will agent start automatically ?

can't it validate image if it is correct ?

Can you distribute it as zip ? Have I really to start exe to get txt ?

That's a useful feature.

I don't mean intentional unplugging but crash of computer or kill from other
user.

isn't SMPOV.exe kind of "unknownn exe" ?

You use programming tool according to its license but I suppose if you have it
legal you distribute it legal.

Why ? With low priority and with save settings on system...
My database-server has 2 GB RAM, 2 procs, >1GHz only 4% of power used for
database. If I can use it safe why not ? The question is: can I use it safe ?

...not portable, compiler dependand, community with interest is different than
community with programming knowledge

Isn't that only calls to runtime library ?

Maybe my last comment was not qualified. I did not see those patches before.

Now I've looked up the page and I think maybe these patches are necessary.

To ABX: Can I get a SP 1 when its ready :-) ?

Theo, just checking, but this will work on a dual-processor, single, PC
correct? That would be great.

The first time I looked at it, there were only three. And that was not
so long time ago. Today 6, looks like they are multiplying like rabbits.

That would be a good idea, avoiding people to go in a somehow similar
direction with not-compatible ideas.

Then you would get a tons of non-programmers pushing for one or another
on your agenda!
Soon, opposite supporters will make riot and kidnap free programmers.

No, of course not.
It would just make the work of povteam more difficult if the concepts
are moving too much.
I believe there will be a high number of patches right after the source
code, and then things will calm down. Then it will be time...
