It appears that Megapov .7 isn't happy with the glows in my scenes that
render perfectly in .6. Sorry if this has been asked before, but is there a
problem with glows in .7 (PC)?
Thanks,
D.

The syntax has changed. Can't help you more without more information,
but the syntax is documented.

Okay, the following doesn't work. Do I have to include a value for radius
and fade power, or are those optional? In any event, POV simply halts when
it encounters the word "glow."

glow {type 0  location <0,0,0> size .045  color rgb .05  translate .1 }

Thanks,
D.

Where is this? You can't define a glow inside an object, like a union.
My guess is that you are trying to put a glow in a union, which won't
work.

Hello Chris.
Sorry for disturbing you with this. I found the documentation for the glow effect
a bit confusing, so I didn't know glows couldn't be added in unions. This
information might explain why I'm having trouble with a scene that I'm doing.

I've posted a test render of the scene in P.B.I

I've used glows in two places, but the funny thing is that one of them works, and
the other don't, even though both are within unions.
The first one is at the opening of a follow-spotlight (a model), because I want
the glow to stay in place when I rotate the model. This glow works.

The other is to simulate a light on a table, which I've also put inside an union
because I wanted to do many copies of the table. This doesn't work.

Is there another way to add glow that accomplish the same as putting it in an
union?

Even if you can specify a glow inside a union, it won't be part of that
union. If you translate the union, the glow won't move, and copies of
the union won't have the glow. However, I thought I had disabled glows
inside unions to avoid this confusion...
I plan to eventually make glow an attribute of objects, like media, that
will make the surface of the object glow. There will be a separate glow
object (a real object, useable in unions) to do the point glows (and
maybe other shapes: lines, circles, other geometric shapes, splines...).

Only by making a macro to create the object and glow.

Aha, that explains my problems. But it seems like 'rotate' works, because the glow
in the follow-spotlight moves with the object when I rotate it. Which I'm happy
for :-)

I'm using the latest version of MacMegaPov, if that helps.

Sounds great!
Talking about things like this, is there any chance that you'll update your
webpage with a progress report on your programming projects? Several of your ideas
sounds extremely interesting, and I check in there frequently to see if anything
has been released. I'm especially interesten in any news on your "DF3 Sculptor".

Oh, well. For now it seems easier to place them out by hand. But thanks for the
tip. This is the first time ever that I've tried the Glow thing, and if I need to
use it again, I will use it in a macro.

Thank you for your quick reply!
Tom

Transforms will work when specified inside the glow, but no transforms
will work if used on the union the glow is specified in. There is no
link between the glow created and the union it is specified in, so
either your code is doing something else or it is an illusion.

Probably not any time soon...I'm starting college soon, and won't have a
whole lot of spare time for a while. But about DF3 Sculptor: I have
working OpenGL preview and the basic structure of the "density
primitives" layed out, but don't even have file output working.

How is this possible without sampling/approximation ?
