You are most welcome, Steve :-)
It took me a while to understand their structure too. At first, it did not
make sense at all to me, and seemed unduly complicated (there is some
grumbling about this in the Poser Forum I noticed). I get the impression
that Poser is in the middle of a gradual core rewrite and it might well be
that the whole construction is going to change in future upgrades...

Oh! I did not know that. Now I've got to un/reinstall Poser because I've put
everything into the Poser Runtime. My libraries are a mess and I can't find
anything. Thanks for the tip.

One of the things I dislike about Poser is the way it does not remember which
directory to use.

It is very convenient indeed. Remember, when you download something for
Poser, always to extract with 'Use folder names' checked (as it is called in
WinZip).
Also, for your convenience, make as many folders or sub-folders as you need.
For instance, my own folder has a sub-forder for 'Animals', another for
'Miki 2', one for 'Apollo Maximus', etc. and I made some sub-folders for 'My
figures', 'My props', intended for things I create and want to access
rapidly later on.

My last spate of downloading has left me really disorganised and it won't get
better if I put it off. I hate housecleaning. At least you've given me a new toy
to play with :-)

The only cases where this does not work (as far as I can tell) is when the
download is already baked into an install .exe. This is often the case for
Daz downloads. Then you can only install into the proper Poser application.

Good luck, Stephen!

It is not just luck I'll need, it's also application. This will be a largish job
and I promise that I'll do it as soon as I finish this scene. Just one more
chapter and I'll put the light out Mum :-)

I used to have all my Poser stuff in one runtime libaray. It was a big mess.
And Poser was taking a long time to load. When I got a new computer, I took
a better approach. Since most of my Poser stuff is downloaded, I found it
easiest to just reinstall (for DAZ stuff) or unzip (for other stuff) into
new runtimes that were categorized. Similar to Thomas, a runtime for
animals, etc. I wouldn't attempt to do this by moving files around. It'll
take forever, and will be error prone. So, if you still have your downloads
stashed somewhere, use them. The DAZ installers let you choose a destination
directory, so its not a problem.

Cheers, Janet

Oh, that is good news! From their installer I got the impression that you
could only install in the main Runtime of Poser or D|S, not in an external
Runtime! Thank you!

Funnily enough, neither would I :-)

After reading about this option I have decided to uninstall Poser, move all
my work files, and delete all the addins. Then I will reinstall Poser and
organise the downloads as you and Thomas have suggested.

current workflow, as my main objective is working with Bishop3D, a new
modeller. The excursion into Poser is to create actors for a scene. I
recently downloaded a lot of free clothes and figures and my Runtime
directory structure is a mess. Clothes mixed with figures and props. I know

Do you (or anyone) have advice on how to build the directory structure?
I've just upgraded to Poser 7 and starting afresh - finally :)
