Never seen this. Then again, I don't post comments to my own site... although I
probably should, since no one else does ;)

No, that's not what I meant. I write articles in the web interface, but the
blog content is then uploaded (published) as static HTML-pages to my own web
space using FTP. This means I can have the blog on my own site even though I
don't have control over which components are installed on the server.

Yeah, that's what I can't do with my web host.

Can you customize a few colors or style sheets, or have you complete control
over every aspect of the HTML/CSS that the blog consists of?

Ugh, that doesn't sound good. How's that possible when they require word
recognision before posting a comment (if not logged in to a google account)?
I guess time will tell how well Blogger works out for me.

I've not seen either of these issues with wordpress.com's
implementation....

Colors, stylesheets and if you know PHP, then the whole shebang. I'm not versed
in the ways of PHP, so I don't know how easy it actually is, but there's
documentation on their site...

Let me re-phrase that: their comment-spam protection is probably as good as
anyone else's (if you can moderate a comment on any blog service, you can
guarantee yourself no comment-spamming); rather, I'm referring to splogging and
Google's apparent disinterest in combatting it:

Never seen either, and I sometimes edit my posts several times, even after
publishing.
<goes and edits a comment several times> Nope, all is well.
The only issue I've see is that sometimes stuff within <pre></pre> tags get
multi-spaced if you edit enough times
What version of Wordpress were you using? Current version is 2.3.3

Sometimes I edit a post, and when I go back and look, just *some* of the
paragraph breaks have vanished, and I have to go put them back. <pre> is
a lost cause. It sometimes does strange things to lists. (Like stripping
"</li>" out.)
Editing a comment completely screws up all the markup. When you first
post the comment, it's fine. But if you go to *edit* it, the markup is
broken in at least two ways:
- Paragraphs now have <p> tags IN ADDITION to blank lines, so everything
now double-spaces.
- Entities get double-escaped. E.g., "…" becomes "…"
[which obviously displays wrong].
