Hello all,
Does anyone know if POV-Tree is still available? I have found some
impressive-looking images of v. 1.5 on the web, but all links appear to be
broken. I am hoping to find a method to create trees in POV-ray with a
graphical interface. Kind of cheating, I know, but I need to generate many
different trees quickly, so this will save some time.
   Thanks, Jeff H.

Thanks Carlo !
Your fast response and perfect information are much appreciated. I have POV-tree
1.5 up and running on my machine. It works great!
Thanks to Gennady Obukhov for this great tool.
   Cheers, Jeff H.

Ah, I spoke too soon. While I did get POV-tree to run, I am unable to export
a tree from it. I can work with the options to generate a tree but when I use
File / Export, and give the new file a name.inc, I always get a "File Not
Found" error.
Some details: I am running POV-tree 1.5 on a Windows Vista machine. I have
the POV-tree files in the POV-Ray / Include directory, but had the same problem
with them on a folder on the desktop or in a POV-tree folder in the POV-Ray
directory. I did ensure that all other versions of Tomtree and related files
that didn't come with the POV-tree were deleted.
Anyone know why this error comes up?
   Thanks, Jeff H.

Regarding POV-tree error:
Just in case someone has a similar problem in the future - I did get POV-tree
to export tree mesh files just fine when I used my other machine running Windows
XP. I do have to watch I don't overload memory on this older machine, though.
It may just be something in the file structure of Vista, but if you try to
export and get a "File Not Found" error in Vista, try POV-tree on an XP machine
at least to generate the include files. I just pumped out a bunch of tree
meshes and can't wait to build a forest tonight.
Thanks again to Carlo, Genna, and Tom.
   Cheers, Jeff H.

I found out today that Gena has moved his brilliant program to:

   http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Graphic/Graphic-Others/POV-Tree.shtml

Hope this helps all in some way.

Oh shoot, that's no good, sorry, I should have checked the download link as
it points to his original page.

   I hope he's ok.

Maybe I can help.
I found the povtree.jar file on this site:
http://code.google.com/p/vibos/source/browse/povtree.jar?r=57afdca19e90d1fe6331218cedec63f792d94bc4
On the right site, at the bottom, there is a link 'view raw file'.
Click this and you start downloading the povtree.jar file.
How to use, can be found on other pages like:
http://povray.tashcorp.net/tutorials/qd_povtree/

Regards Henrik

A pity that - like so many others - Gena drifted away to somewhere else.
Real Life, no doubt. It would be nice if somebody could finish the
development of POVtree. There are a couple of bugs and, most
importantly, there would be the export to mesh2 to implement.
