we don't really have anything formal in terms of a definitive guide,
unfortunately.

DEFINATELY NOT the same guy! Not that I ever met him or saw a picture of
him. But somehow I'm sure that couldn't be Mike.

Actually, I'm waiting for the multi-core processor version, now that I have
a dual-core. But man!... real-time raytracing? Who'd have dreamed of it
back when we first started this stuff?

So cool! Thanks, Tor. You can bet that I'll be spending some time there
tonight!

<nitpicking>
Of course it all comes down to the *definition* of "real-time" raytracing.
If the only requirement is that the program is able to render a simple
scene at more than about 5 fps, the POV-Ray 3.6 could already do that in
a fast PC. What 3.7 does is to add SMP support (for using multiple processors)
and removing the repeated parsing. This means that more complex scenes can
be rendered at higher speeds.
It's not so much that "real-time raytracing is now possible" as more like
"it's now possible to raytrace animations with a moving camera faster than
before".
</nitpicking>

I think that you just may have found something. The "Head Spin Studios"
name seems to ring a vague bell, and anyone would have to agree that the
cup logo sure looks like Mike's style. I just shot off an email to Doug
Miller asking him if he knew anything. Perhaps a relative of Mike's?

I'm real glad to hear from you, Dan! Thanks for helping POV-Ray become what
it is today. An awesome tool for both fun and learning useful skills
(artistic, techincal, and much more) not to mention producing beautiful
works of art.

Funny you should mention that! I had a similiar dream in 2004 and released
MegaPOV XRS this year. I'm glad I followed through and turned a rough
prototype into a useful tool for others too. I learned so much in the
process and I enjoy having something to share with others. And yeah,
renders still take all night
;-)
Still, you beat me to the punch :D
My first computer was an Amiga 2000, and that wasn't until 1993! I only
switched to the PC in 1997 (After getting an A1200 and upgrading it all the
way to an '060 tower). Now I'm thinking of 'switching' to a different
computer...
See MegaPOV XRS on my site: http://www.gammaburst.net

By the way, some of you may remember Bob Schadewald. Unfortunately, Bob
passed away a couple of years ago. He lived only a few miles from me, so I
had the opportunity to visit with this amazing guy several times.

damn! so many Mike Millers out there! :P
still more detective work...
Unfortunately, the Doug in the highenergygraphics is actually Douglas Dodd,
not Miller. He's not the same grauate from CCAD. I should've researched
better. Though i think he definetely worked with Mike, as in his resume:
http://www.highenergygraphics.com/drdResume.htm
I asked him in an email and never got an answer.
Still, my best bet would be that Mike Miller is actually the professor in
CCAD. I wish i knew his email there... The Doug Miller graduate from CCAD
and responsible for the webdesign of the journal that featured professor
Mike Miller from CCAD has this webpage, with email address in it:
http://home.columbus.rr.com/dougmiller/
the first Mike Miller i posted is not him, really, as he answered my email.
:)
