Radiosity scenes are a pain to finish if you have to roll back 10 lines
or so.  +C isn't always a viable option.

Maybe the prompt could be implemented, but with a user-defined time
limit before it activated.  So if you set it at 5 minutes, all your
"Render -- Crap that's wrong  -- Stop" renders wouldn't ask, but if
you'd had a real render going, then you'd get prompted before killing it
by mistake.

The windows version doesn't prompt when you hit the Stop button, though
it will ask you if you try to close the program while it is still
rendering.

Actually, I had already decided to add something like this, I've been doing
some long renders myself recently and always had to be careful I didn't hit
'stop' instead of 'tray'.

I'll probably make it conditional on the render having progressed for more than
a certain amount of time (probably half an hour).

I don't want it on by default since when I'm working on a scene I regularly
stop the render early, and being bugged each time would be a nuisance.

Along the same lines, in the Windows version, it'd be nice to have a "Rerun"
button that allowed you -- with ONE click -- to rerun the last render using
all the same conditions, command-line options, etc.  I know that there is a
rerun button but because it offers so many possibilities, it takes three
clicks (at three different pieces of real estate) to start the most recent
render over again.  When I'm tweaking a scene, especially one spread out
over several #include files, both of the available methods are annoying.

I continue renders with radiosity and don't need to roll back the lines.  I
use the load/save file in the radiosity section as well as the load/save
photons section both in the global area.  All I have to do is hit the run
button with the "+c" in the command line.   I stop my renders (currently one
that takes 5 months to complete (10240x7680)) several times a day and
restart it with just the run button.

As others, I would very much appreciate this. I like the idea of having a
minimum time threshold before activating (perhaps user defined), but another
option would simply be a toggle for the feature.

Damn! What kinds of operations are you doing for ten hours? I did a sort of
about 100k vertices this weekend and though that was long at 8 minutes!

If I had to guess, I'd say you were doing some type of guess and check
placement algorithm or some type of incremental function minimizing
operation.

Just curious.

As a matter of interest, have you considered adding a Pause Render option to the
context
sensetive menu when right-clicking on the tray icon. I find it an annoyance sometimes
having
to restore the POV GUI so as to click Pause, when all I want is to allow some other
prog more
resources temporarily.

Well, I've never actually gone to 10+ hours of parsing, but I've come
close with photon tracing with my "teardrop prism" scene, and I've had
several instances of 2+ hour parsing with placing large numbers of
objects on a heightfield with collision detection.  I've also canceled a
scene involving the Surface Subdivision macros after estimating a parsing
time of 33 days.
