I just joined the newsgroups and noticed that there are specialized
discussions for the Mac, DOS, and Windows versions. Could an amiga
discussion be created? If one already exists, just tell me where it is.
(www.amigaworld.com gives me a 404)

Thanks

Welcome,

If you would like to discuss raytracing with POV-Ray on the Amiga
platform you can do so in this group. There are so few Amiga users
we just haven't felt a need to create a special group for that purpose.

If you just want to discuss Amiga's in general we would tolerate
discussions of this nature in the off-topic group.

I almost said that taking over povray.msdos might be an idea, since last
post there was about 10 months ago. But then no one would ever be heard
from in there. :-)

Actually there was a message posted there yesterday but it didn't last
long before it was deleted with extreme prejudice.

Cool! Another Amiga POV user. Now I won't be the only one here
who doesn't use MegaPOV. :-)

There are others who don't use Mega too, such as (I think) Brendan
Ryan, I was also one untill fairly recently, some people only want
to use the official version.

I think that official POV carries a status that Mega doesn't, I only
started using it because of people round here using it and not having
any problems, for example would anyone use an unoffical version of MS
Access? You don't expect an unofficial version of anything to work
the same and to be as stable as the offical version.

I don't use MegaPOV, for whatever that's worth. Not because I don't like
it or because I like the official version better or whatever, but because
I want the stuff I write to work for everybody, whenever possible.

The stuff I put on my pages for others to use falls into this category.

I don't write any other kind of stuff these days, except for the occasional
3.5 test scene.

Sorry, I use MegaPOV. But I use Mega specific features only occasionally.
With some files, the version line could be commented out without changing
anything else and the official version would be able to render them. I do
have some files that use isosurfaces and the such. If I ever get to release
files (definitely during the summer) that don't need Mega, I'll be sure to
have no unofficial version lines.
