1. In Dec 1998, I downloaded a couple of the free Zygote models: santa
that I've got Poser 3, I finally tried to unzip these zip's only to find
that my WinZip refuses to open them. Say it with me: "Sad."

I'm having the same problem, but have only dabbled so far. AFAIK there is a
solution - several even - but I haven't worked it out yet.
Check out
http://www.mediaport.net/Artichaud/Tran/sources/tutuve.htm
on Giles's site
and take a look at poser3/runtime/textures/*.tif

The latest version of 3DWin makes it fairly simple now.
- Export your model as *.obj.
- Convert it with 3DWin to the mesh2 format. This outputs several files,
particularly :
- The *_o.inc file contains the mesh
- The *_m.inc file contains the texture definitions that you can edit and
replace by your own.

Yes, I'm using 3DWin, perhaps an old version, and ran into the problem of
your wonderful tutorial but thought this was for someone already at the next
step and/or importing a nude and hand-stitching clothing.
I'll look into a FAQ (won't dare ask here) as to where to find the latest
version of 3D Win.

The irony is that in the tutorial in the Isssue 05 of 3D World mag, when they
talk of rendering it in another package, they show an image with exactly the
the reasons I never paid cash for Poser 3.
I guess I should also look into pos2pov also, in case there are bicubic mesh
export options..

were absolutely certain it would fix my problem. Maybe it's best to hand-stitch
my own clothes or use my blob character instead.

3DWin has always been shareware but never had nag screens or
limitaions on the feature set. Thomas has been putting a lot
of work into the program of late and is getting tired of people
using it without paying for it. I don't think he is being
unreasonable - do you ?

I'm not one for cheating on shareware. I really was surprised that it
wasn't free. Perhaps I did pay years ago or perhaps it was free or perhaps
it just wasn't clear.

I must admit I thought it was free until the current release which I have
just bought! next on the list IRTC CD-ROMS!
It really is worth the money, in fact it's a real must have for Poser and
Povray.
