I'm working on something better than "OBJuvPOV" in C++ (previews, manual
winding correction, whatever I can get to work etc. etc.) but in the
meantime (I don't know what month the first release will be) OBJuvPOV isn't
too bad if you've got a Windows PC - from the "download" page at my site
below.

On the subject of which, if anyone has any ideas on editing polys -
particularly with regard to the math involved in ensuring all points on
polys are planar - please do give me a yell and I may try and include
primitive mesh editing in OBJuvMOD (at the moment it's aims are all things
I'm fairly sure I can get it to do - like making it easy to spot "reverse
wound" faces and unwind them, recalculating normals, stuff like that.
Possibly even Surface subdivision if I can find the excellent POV example of
doing this and convert to C++ code including UV co-ordinate recalculation).

It supports UV-Mapped .OBJ files only, which is generally fine from Poser
(people etc. are all UV-Mapped) and while it was originally designed for
UV-POV (and now MegaPOV) thanks to Chris Colefax is _can_ actually convert
.OBJ files for use in standard edition POV-Ray... which IMO boggles the
mind. Mega-POV is far better for UV-Mapped meshes though, IMHO. Parse speed
and file size are both much improved.

I bought my copy on the official day of release - Tuesday or Wednesday I
think - from my local WH Smiths (but Smiths are notorious for not knowing
when things are coming out - don't even talk to me about them and media
tie-in books!).

Note that the latest version of 3DWin does an excellent job of
translating poser *.obj files to the mesh2 format. No crashes or other
troubles so far.

I'll check it out - at the moment I can export a poser 3 model as an .obj
and translate that to a working mesh using pos2pov. What I haven't been able
to do is export any uv mapping. UVMapper (?) does allow me to output and
load an appropriate map into psp for hand colouring (from the .obj file),
but this would seem a bit fiddly, but worth doing if no alternative existed.
Pos2pov wants a material file which doesn't seem to be an output option in
poser 3. Still, early days yet. I'll check out 3dwin this evening. Thanks
for the tip.

At the moment, using two models with the appropriate no_reflection, no_image
settings, I'm modelling a Magritte
(http://www.nicolarandone.com/arte/magritte7.jpg) - I can't remember what
this image is called, can anyone enlighten me?

BTW Quite a few Magritte's would be fun to model - anyone interested could

Poser normally comes with texture maps. In Poser 4, they are stored in the
runtime/textures directory. Of course, they may have been left out of a free
version. I can send them to you if you want.

It's called La reproduction interdite (Reproduction prohibited), 1937.

LOL - given the Magritte estate's attitude to reproductions and unauthorised
images, this seems very appropriate. Oh, well. I'd better call it "This is
not a Magritte".

Once again...

I've uploaded this to www.tomandlu.co.uk/poser3

(my last post on this was a misunderstanding between myself and outlook as
to the meaing of "send later")

I'm not sure what the legal status of this copy of poser is - needless to
say I assume that it is not licenced for professional use.

BTW install with setup.exe not autorpz.exe (the latter is listed in
autorun.inf). Also, set "use folder names" when unzipping the download.

The issue I found on the newshelf was from 8/9... I'm assuming the one that
has this in it is the copy that has the ant-like image on the cover that
they have posted on their website??? www.3dworldmag.com
