Hi,
Does anyone knows if there is any include file
out there used to melt object? If not, I'll try to do one.
Just wanted to know before I work for nothing.

I haven't heard of one. I suppose Chris Colefaxes Object Exploder could
be altered to use blobs and then you might be able to get a melting
effect.
It's a pretty tall order, but go for it and let us know how it works
out...

I had the same idea of starting with the Object Exploder, so I'm not
as stupid as I thought, or are we both stupid ?... :)

Considering how well I answer some of these questions, I may want to plead
the fifth, but to get accurate melting, you might want to start with that.
If you can get object exploder to make something crumble, then you're
halfway there. The challenge is understanding the code of the include files,
which I've never figured out. Chris has a much stronger sense of programming
than I do, and I can't quite follow the code.
Another thought is to take somthing like Hugo Elias' gel work and deform a
mesh. That might allow for a candle (basically a cylinder) to "melt" into a
puddle.

Tried to use blobs by inverse differencing the (melting) object from them
and it kind of works. Just doesn't actually puddle or drip or anything.
Shrink the blobs in size or number over time.

This was an idea suggested to me quite some time ago, which I always had to
put off as not particularly feasible under POV 3.0/3.1. Blobs would
certainly seem to be part of the solution, and if your object is constructed
of blobs it shouldn't be too difficult to adjust the components' sizes and
positions to give the appearance of melting.
What does strike me as difficult is melting an arbitrary (probably CSG)
object. You need to be able to split the object into parts, that will
nevertheless interact in a semi-liquid fashion. Some of the custom patches
offer possibilities, e.g. isoblobs (although these won't be in 3.5), or a
combination of object patterns and eval_pattern.
Personally, I do still want to try my hand at all the projects listed on my
site (http://www.geocities.com/ccolefax/projects.html), once the features
and syntaxes in 3.5 are definite, e.g. Physics Simulation, a script based
Particle System, Pyrotechnic Effects, etc.

Of course, feel free to find whatever inspiration/usefulness you can in my
code - all my include file projects are (by necessity, at the very least)
open source, so I can only wish you the best of luck in deciphering it (I
know I have enough trouble myself, coming back to a file months or even
years after I created it...!).
