Could one simply apply turbulence to a black and white gradient pattern.
Experts: whip one up for us, please.

You should be able to UV-map procedural textures too...
Maybe if some kind of spotted pattern(not THE spotted pattern, but any
pattern which produces spots) were stretched out and turbulated...maybe
even "checker" would work.

I would think using a radial pattern on a plane (if that's
possible) using the colors black and white, then mapping that
plane onto a zebra shape.

Here I am plodding along in the far out uncharted backwaters
of the unfashionable end of the Western Spiral arm of the
Galaxy (and doing, just fine, thank you very much) and suddenly...
I just *can't* live without a Zebra texture.
Oh, the humanity.

In fact, what I have is the image map that was bundled with the
corresponding Poser zebra model. As it's not much useful for anything
else, I'm not sure that's what Peter needs.
Btw, zebra textures to uv-map Poser people are available at
http://www.renderosity.com, Poser free stuff section (search for
"zebra"). Curious, but not quite helpful either.

If the image maps suggested don't serve your purposes you might consider
examining the code for Rune's pattern control trick:
http://rsj.mobilixnet.dk/3d/goodies/goodies.html
I'm thinking a marble with some low turb inside of a bozo would do the
trick,
using the bozo to control the width of the 'stripe' and the overall
arrangement of stripes.

That's probably the best solution (image map), I guess I was
hoping for some 'magic bullet.'
Thanks,

Thanks, I haven't been to Rune's site in a while and that looks
interesting. It will probably send me off on some other tangent...
