Trying to keep myself busy, I am attempting to find a way to speed up
the cloth rendering technique developed from Hugo Elias' work (Well,
stolen.) and I am trying to find a way to write the contents of an array
into a text file, then have a second file read it. I have attached two
files in p.b.s-f and I'm not sure why they don't work. Could someone
take a look at them for me?

Why does everybody ignore the link I give them? Why does everybody seem bent
on working from Hugo Elias' stuff?

Hugo's work is better known in the CG industry.

Probably because I'm an idiot and can't keep track of everything. I come across
a page and I work like mad to figure out exactly how it works.
Which link are you referring to? I'll happily take a look. I suspect that when
you posted whichever link it was, I was busy focusing on other things.

That seems unlikely. It may be better known in our little corner, but looking
at most of his page it seems he's little more than a democoder who happens to
have a knack for explaining complex ideas somewhat better than everyone else.
It's certainly not research. It seems more likely that people in the industry
would use some of the ideas I've seen in SIGGRAPH papers than Mr. Elias's
watered-down treatment.

Thank you, Ron. My sentiments exactly. He just guessed at how it might work,
and he got it to do so, but not in the most efficient, realistic fashion.
The work by Provot (IIRC) proves the flaws of that older system, and shows
that the new system is not only more realistic, it is faster and simpler to
process. Besides, Provot also explains how do to collision detection with it
and a bunch of other stuff.

Oh, Josh, please. Don't be like that. I had no intention to make you feel
like an idiot (which you are not). It's just that I've posted the link
several times since I found it, and yet, every time someone is working on
cloth, they're using the stuff on Hugo Elias' site. I hope you can
understand my feelings of mild frustration, which led me to post that
message. I should have added a comment about how it wasn't an attack on you,
in any way. Sorry.

Now that I just went back to check it, I realize that the links to the
images and animations aren't working on the page. Hmm... well, anyway, if
you can download the papers that they wrote, all the images on the webpage
are in there. If not, then I'm sure I can send you the papers and animations
through ICQ. In them, they compare the two systems, and show how theirs
works. (I hope you know enough physics to understand it, I had to consult
with my teacher at school when I found this the first time :)
Oh, and for Gilles and his people: the papers were originally in French.
Maybe the guys on the French POV group can get together to work on it too?

We get 2or3 of the Pixar people haunting the public groups but few
if any of the rest present their credentials when posting so I'll
have to take your word on that one.
