In the thread "POVLOGO" there is a big discussion about whether or not the
logo *must* be made with POV-Ray.
People can't quite agree no matter how much arguing is done, but I guess
that's just natural.
Since we can't reach a conclusion by arguing, I think we could make a
"mini-voting" about the question, and see people's opinions that way. Let's
say, if more than 60% agree, then we have our conclusion. If not, we'll have
to find another way to find out.
Some people say:
"What does it tell about POV-Ray if it can't even to render its own logo?
Also, a logo made with POV-Ray can be distributed with the program. This way
people can use the logo "object" in their scenes if they wish."
Others say:
"Why not accept every logo, made with POV-Ray or not. We could always
convert the winning logo to POV-Ray code later. Should that conversion not
be practical, it would show that the logo creator indeed had a good reason
not to use POV-Ray."
At least, that's my attempt at making a summery of the arguments I've seen.
However, I encourage everybody to read the thread "POVLOGO" and as many of
the replies as possible before voting here.
Remember: This voting is not about if the logos *should* be made with
POV-ray. It is about if the logos *must* be made with POV-Ray. If we reach a
conclusion, that conclusion will be a rule everyone must follow.
Reply to this message with your vote.
You can vote "yes" or "no", but please don't come with arguments here. Post
your arguments in the "POVLOGO" thread if you want.
So here's the question we vote about:
Must the logo be made with POV-Ray? (yes or no)
Greetings,
Rune

IMHO, no. It would be nice if it were made in POV, but it shouldn't be
obligatory.
BTW, it's "summAry".

That is a loaded question and I refuse to answer it. I have seen no one
argue that it MUST be made with POV-Ray though the consensus seems to
me to say that is preferable. Even the POV-Team is willing to accept a
logo made outside of POV-Ray if you re-read their reply you will see that.
The way I see it the rules should include a statement such as the following:
"You may use any graphics application you wish to create your logo entry
but it would be preferable if the logo could be rendered with POV-Ray."

I don't think -any- one said that Logos -must- be made with POV. I know
that you thought that is what I was saying but I thought I cleared that up.
Many people have said that it-should- be made with POV but that anything
should be submitted and let the author take their chances...

No
I think that POV should not be compulsory to create the logo.
Many good concepts and ideas might be left aside or left unborn if the use of
tools other than POV were forbidden.
Yet, it would be a real shame if the logo was rendered with another raytracer or
scanliner ( 3DSMAX, Lightwave, Maya Unlimited, Sumatra, and all those cheap
sharewares ....)
A logo is essentially 2D thing. POV is mostly a 3D renderer and that's what it
does best.
(The latest logo I posted was rendered with POV though)

Exactly why is it a loaded question? How could I put the question so it
isn't a loaded question?

I tried to make a conclusion, but people made a lot of replies and they
didn't state clearly if it was objections or not. I want to have things set
straight, so what could I do?

The POV-Team also said that the management of the competition is the sole
responsibility of the POV-Ray user community and its organizers. That's why
we are having these discussions. The POV-Team have set a few outer limits
only.

I tried to make a conclusion message, but people made a lot of replies and
they
didn't state clearly if it was objections or not.
Should I take note that you don't think the logo *must* be made with
POV-Ray?

I thought my message was clear:
"You may use any graphics application you wish to create your logo entry
but it would be preferable if the logo could be rendered with POV-Ray."
