Hi,
meanwhile, I have tried several rendering and format conversion programs
which can import DXF-files (and export POV-files), but I could not
find anyone which support the colour information in my DXFs (ACAD 14).
Any idea (in the low cost region, of course)?
Thanks for tips!
Dieter

If you are truly exporting from Acad 14 you would be better off exporting
.3ds files instead of .dxf. It's much easier to keep the color information
that way plus the files sizes are much smaller.

my DXFs are created by a special TurboPascal program.
Unfortunately, ACAD 14 does not support a 3DS export. :-((

Yes it does. File menu -> export -> file format choose .3ds.
Anyway you might want to take a look at wcvt2pov or maybe crossroads
if you haven't already. They both allow you to edit the color information
of individual groups before exporting to POV-Ray. Both programs can
be found at the same site with wcvt2pov being designed to support
POV-Ray v2.2 and crossroads for the later versions of POV-Ray.

You, too, say that crossroads supports colour.
Well, obviouly not of dxf-files. And, it needed several minutes to load my 1.4 MB
dxf-file.
With 3DS-files, now, loading time is much better, but no colour information used,
too.
I tried 3DWIN (colour in dxf definitely not supported), and my ACAD generated
3DS-files have no mesh information which is neede.
WCVT2POV, I don't know it. Next trial. :-) or :-( ?

PSP 5.*, and maybe PSP 6.*, like I said before can at least open the DXF and
show wireframes in color, but not shaded polygons or the like. And of course
you can't view from varying angles, far as I know. Although it can give you an
idea of what's in a DXF file. At $50 the PSP 5.0 I got was a great bargain.

Some programs where mentioned in this thread and there are a few in the
POV links section of www.povray.org. However, none of them seems to be a
simple command line utility.
I wrote one some time ago, and I am wondering whether I should dust it
off and add missing features (such as tesselation of non-planar polygons
and color)?

Hi,
if you have a 3ds file use 3dto3d V4 Beta (www.stmuc.com/thbaier) to
convert color information.
