Is there any possibility to set PovRay to output directly to an 32-bit CMKY
file rather than the usual 24-bit RGB format.
Thanks

No.

Can someone add this? I know I could use it (for my yearbook).

I don't think this would be practical, since AFAIK internally POV is built
around the RGB model. You could of course do RGB -> CMYK conversion in video
post, but there are other programs better suited for this. Good RGB -> CMYK
conversion is not a trivial matter, for one because the two models have quite
different gamut space.

RGB to CMYK conversion is lossy and it requires a profile, and these
are platform-specific. So the answer is no, and it probably remain so
in the next version.

I see a lot of people asking the question in comp.graphics.misc about
convering RGB -> CMYK. Even the people experienced with the process and
can afford the software that does this type of conversion are not always
happy with the results.
I would think it would be highly problematic to do this in POV-Ray and
get predictable results.

Is there an echo in here? :)
Or did my post sound like I was claiming the opposite?

No sir. I was merely supporting your statement. You see it's like if
one person say's to you that there is a red mark on your face you
might ignore that person. If every person you see for the rest of the
day tells you that there is a red mark on your face it's time that
you start believing them. For that reason I thought that I would
attempt to lend some weight to what you already said so that the
topic would not continue in a pointless manner.
Satisfied ?

Of course.
I was simply afraid my argument had fallen victim to poor wording.

No, but you could output to a PNG and use up to 16 bits per color (48 bits
total). This could give better output for subsequent CMYK conversion
