Hehe, sorry for the header of my previous post. Not having English as my
native tongue I didn't notice anything before I got it pointed out...
Now let's call it the 'Database For POV-Ray Users' or DFPU. That's not
offending is it? ;-)
Here's the news: The DFPU may be melted together with 'The World of POV-Ray
Users'! I asked Bob Hughes about it and he seemed to like the idea. Great!
So the form will include names, age and gender, country and possible state,
latitude and longitude.
What else should it include of personal info, POV-Ray related info, and
other? Please come with all your ideas.
Greetings,
Rune S. Johansen

No, but it sounds kinda ugly. How about: 'POV-Ray User-base' (without an
acronym)?

Province, in case state does not apply; link to webpage; current
contributions to the development of POV-Ray; and a short (optional) message
from the user to the world.
"...I am a POVer, and this is my manifesto..." =)

For us POVers in the U.K. and elsewhere how about "County"

Well, it's very American to make fun of odd little words like "pud"
(though I somehow don't think we have a monopoly on that affliction. A
potato is a spud, and pud might sound like mud, how's that for a
start? Actually I wasn't trying to mean PUD wouldn't be fine, but see
what happens? Anyhow, I like Tony's suggestion to just spell it out
but DFPU is interesting because it seems like Double Floating Point
Unit (whatever).
For personal info guess it should be two fold, actual personal info
and also things relating to POV-Ray.
I have a list of IMP (www.imp.org) members and more on the way so
that's one thing to consider. How about Photo ID type of thing. Sort
of a passports to POV?

Hi Rune S. Johansen, you recently wrote in povray.general:

Why not include city or town (or village)? Makes it easy to find
people near me.

How about country, state/county/district/whatever, and nearest major city?

I'm trying to work out a method that works for all contries.
It would be a great help if you all could show me previews
of what complete addresses look like in different countries.
In Denmark it's like this:
[Name]
[Street] [Number]
[Postal code] [postal district]
[Country]
[Postal code] is a 4 digit number which is always attached
to a postal district
[Postal district] can be a village, for example "Silkeborg",
or a part of a town, for example "Esbjerg N." for the North
part of Esbjerg. It can also be a tiny island for example
"Anholt".
So what's it like where you live?
I thought of including this in the POV-Ray User-Base form:
Country,
Nearest major city,
Postal district,
Postal code/zip code,
latitude and longitude.
Wouldn't that be sufficient? Would it work for all countries?
BTW, I'm sorry I haven't replied to all the messages.
I don't have as much time as I wish I had.
Greetings,
Rune S. Johansen

In France, we have:
[Name]
[Number], [Street]
[Postal code] [City] [Country]
(Of course, mine doesn't conform, it would be too easy :) it goes like:
[Name]
[Appt #] [House Name]
[Postal code] [City] [Country]
)

I think you are getting a little too detailed. For my own part I will
tell you my:
Name: Ken Tyler
Age: 41
Sex: Yes
City: Tustin
State: California
Country: USA
I will not provide a street address, zip code, or phone home number. I
consider that a form of protection against several potential undesirable
scenarios that don't need to be gone into in any detail here. I like the
anonymity of the internet and prefer to keep it that way.

He didn't suggest phone number, only street address number I think.
It may be relevent for some people to include every detail but like
Ken says internet privacy would be invaded. I could only see it
feasible to collect and redistribute to each participant that kind of
personal info and email isn't secure stuff. As it is with locations
down to within a mile via regular map coordinates is going to be
accurate enough to locate someone by name from there. Already not a
totaly carefree option, again especially not over the internet.
PS Ken's format of US info is same here in another state of US
although I could see where zip code would be a viable addition
(12345-1234 format here).
