This is not related to POV but it does directly affect my ability to
view the POV newsgroups.
Is it possible to get MS Outlook Express to display a newsgroup message
as it is loading (i.e. netscape style)?
I recently purchased a new computer (of course it's for the exclusive
purpose of running POV-Ray :-) and, until I get access to my campus
network, I'm stuck on a 14.4 modem. This prevents me from downloading
Netscape, POV and the like, in a reasonable amount of time and I am
stuck reading the NGs in Outlook Express.

Thanks,

Guess you mean to see images download a little at a time maybe? I
haven't seen anything that would change that. However you can at
least make messages appear as being read a lot quicker than the
default. Tools/Options... and Read tab, the top checkbox there. I'm
a Outlook newbie so there's plenty I don't know. There's also a
checkbox for sending and receiving messages at program startup under
the General tab.

I came back to this because I thought I figured more precisely what
you meant, but now I don't think I do... I used Netscape plenty
enough but the only real difference I can see with Outlook is how the
default settings make it a bit different. Aside from the fact of
course that images don't show up until they've been fully d/l'd.
Other things like message text and other binaries seem to be handled
the same. Another checkbox changes the post listing to show replies
within a message posting. Anything I've said even close to your
question?

Thanks for the info Bob. What I meant was to get text or images displayed
one bit at a time. In Netscape, as I loaded a long text message, or message
with an image attached, it would display what it had loaded while loading
the rest of the message. This was great, especially with slow connections.
Now, with Outlook, I have to wait until all of a message is loaded before I
can see anything. It seems that I have lost out by converting to MS, but, on
a brighter note, only two more days until I move in to residence and get to
play with a high speed connection (at least until I get bogged down by
homework).

Your welcome. I too suffered a withdrawl from the piece at a time
newsreading. With a fast enough connection it wouldn't matter so much
I guess. But yes, not seeing the messages, images especially, as they
pipe through is the downside anyway. Something makes me think if
there were Progressive Jpg files (they show all at once and then focus
in) it would change but I have yet to see it happen. Saw one every
once in awhile before and haven't since starting using Outlook.
