Any quake players out there ?

I've set up two AQ2 (Action Quake 2) servers at quake2.povray.org.

  quake2.povray.org:27910 DM
  quake2.povray.org:27920 Teamplay

If you do play quake2 but haven't tried AQ2, it's worth getting. You can get
the AQ2 files from action.telefragged.com, and the maps from the map archive
(http://aqmd.telefragged.com/archive.html). You'll be wanting -

  actcity2
  actcity3
  cliff2
  ghetto
  lighthouse
  locknload
  police
  rhcity1
  teamjungle
  urban2
  urban3

some of which (I think) are in the default PAK file that comes with AQ2.

You may also like to get the model packs from http://guild.telefragged.com/

  http://www.telefragged.com/mirrors/mirror.pl?guild/guildpacks/modelpack1.zip
  http://www.telefragged.com/mirrors/mirror.pl?guild/guildpacks/modelpack2.zip

but that's not essential (though I recommend you do).

What kind of a question is that???!!! ;-)

I'm currently downloading Q3Test... (for the second time... the first time
it seems that my download program doesn't know how to do server side CRC...)

GO QUAKE!!!

As a matter of interest (for those of you who are sick of me already, just
don't read past this point), as part of the launch party for a new website,
I am organising a Quake 3 Arena Challenge night. The Deathmatches and CTF
games will be played on 6 m projected screens and accompanied by music by
The Prodigy :)

It will be a fun night for all :)

What DOOM was to the early '90s... the ultimate shoot-'em-up in a 3d
environment. Just you (and possibly some pals) against the hordes from Hell.
Or, you can play 'deathmatch' against a fellow gamer, Ken. Do you feel
lucky, pal?

So it's a modern pong game ? I have been out of touch with electronic
games since Intellivision was replaced by Atari and Nentendo. Personaly
I think Pov is the ultimate 3D game in town. Why play in someone else's
3D worlds when you can create your own :)

Speaking of which, the graphics are considerably better and faster if you
have good enough hardware acceleration... I was quite amazed with the
results from Quake 3 Arena... here's a good site...

http://beyond3d.com/screenshots/Q3A-Neon250/10.html

The image on this page is 1024x768 Truecolor, computed in real time in Quake
3 Arena at a rate of 37 FPS. Quite amazing considering the quality :)

*next step: impliment raytracer and steal a few Crays*

Cray's are old now. I just read that a company is coming out with a new
chip that is supposed to be under $1000 and 60,000 times faster than a
pentium II 350. I think I read it on slashdot.org.

Well, depends what type of Cray you're talking about I guess. The old T24s
(is that the right number? I can't remember) are like snails compared to
SGI's T90s.

But hey, I REALLY like the sound of that chip... 60000 times faster? Hmm...
the clock speed would be fast wouldn't it? 23100000 MHz? LOL, I'LL TAKE
ONE!!! ;-)

Hmm... just read the article and went to Star Bridges Systems' website...
I'm pretty speechless...

A Field Programmable Gate Array running at 100 Trillion Floating Point
Operations Per Second...

I litterally got a shiver down my spine reading that...

While FPGA's are extremely fast it is important to remember that they are
not CPU's and do not operate quite the same way.
