Is it my imagination, or is it quieter here than it normally is ?

Sadly...

Or maybe it's an indication of lots of rendering? :)

Or maybe the S.W. craze.

I got the same impression. I suppose it has to do with the summer (on the
northern hemisphere) and maybe the semester end(s) in a lot of universities
around the world.

That, and the exams they inflict upon us that drain the small amount of
time that isn't used for drinking and sleeping. :)

You don't know how right you are. End-of-semester hell plus work equals no

For me, I'm learning Animation:Master, which has some strengths in the few areas
povray is weak.

Also, there's an interesting balance between cluttering up the server with
eighteen, "Oh, I love, it, TOO!" comments, vs. not giving any feedback on
someone's artwork. I must admit that the total lack of comment on my ocean
animation took away some of my desire to contribute again.

I'm sorry that you have that feeling, but I can excuse myself with the fact that
I never post or read animations.. I don't have the bandwidth to do so when the
server tugs in a few bytes / second...

sorry.

A total lack of comment = awed into silence

(at least that's how I take it when no comments are forthcoming on my
masterpieces)
