Hello, my name is Simon, and I am a POV-snob.

In particular, I am a certain type of snob.

I am a processing snob. I believe that the only pure rendered image is
one that has not been touched in any way by any external editor.
Copyright messages make me cringe.

I am a texture snob. If it ain't procedural, it just ain't real.

I am a modelling snob (a rare breed). If it's coded by hand, it's less
'artsy'.

---

Face it. We're all snobs, in one way or another. We all believe things,
for no apparant reasons. Well, I say this is nothing to be ashamed of!
POV-snobs of the world, unite!

Are you a code snob (modellers are for wimps)!?
Are you a time snob (any render under 8 hours is a waste of time!)?
Are you a math snob (an egg is a complex equation, never a stretched
sphere!)?
Are you a macro snob (if it can be done with a macro, it must be!)?
Are you a physics snob (the IOR of water is 1.332, fool! Not 1.333!!!!)?

Love to hear from you all!

BTW, this is meant as a lighthearted post... no mean debates over the
validity of [FOO] as opposed to [BAR].... just good old fashioned
snobbery, eh? >:)

Indented pov script is for programmers not artists.

Glass is made with rgbf and not rgbt.

Color = color not colour. (Ken is ducking and covering)

Anything system with less than 64 megs of ram is worthless for Pov.

Anything system with less than 200 mhz is worthless for Pov.

Anything system with less than 3 gigs of hard drive space is
worthless for Pov.

The color key word is not needed anymore in lighting and color map
statements and must be deleted upon first contact.

Background is not used in my scenes now way no how !

Pov is pronounced Pov (long "O") not Pav of Poov !

I'm sure there are more on my list but...

just cuz it's not needed doesn't mean you shouldn't use it. (usually
applied to the 'texture' token)

>Pov is pronounced Pov (long "O") not Pav of Poov !

POV is pronounced pee-oh-vee.

The first place to look when trying to figure out how some primitive
works is the source code, followed by the manual.

Rendering is for sissies; writing rendering software is where the real
prestige is.

modeling is okay, but unless your scene has at least one #while loop
in it, it's not a POV scene.

POV code should be indented like C code.

Thank God someone else agrees with me! I got into a big argument in a
chat one time on the pronuciation of POV. I was the only one that
thought it should be pronouced as the acronym P-O-V.

So as far as I'm concerned I was right. Hee hee.

The only way to understand a feature is to spend three days playing
around with it. Then apply it to a scene and totally relearn:)

Any computer you want to use is fine, as long as you have a lot of time.

Indenting is a must

Scenes are never finished

It is of course P-O-V

While loops are fine and good, but make sure your coordinates are polar
or spherical.

If you know how, do it yourself once, just to prove you could, then get
Steve Pidgeons Macro to do it better.

Even if you can't see it, you'll know your model is complete. Make sure
you include far more detail than you need:)

Steve

Oh come on now. P-O-V (pee-oh-vee) ??
Is Pov (pah-veh)[silent h] wrong? Only because I know no one personally
to talk with and have no audible communication of the acronym to develop
my pronunciation with someone else who has POV-Ray?
Considering this thread is partly a joke, I might be beating a dead
horse.
Anyway, yes... POV-Snobbery to the end for me.
Btw, wav (PCM encoded) sound file attached ;) about 107K.

I'm doing this now... my Sojourner rover model has screws on it, despite the
fact it'll appear no longer than 150 pixels, tops. :)

Wheee! You say it like I do...

I have to consult the smartest man I know.

Yes, Stephen Hawking pronounces it just like we do!

Well, not EXACTLY Hawking, but a cheapo speech synthesizer I downloaded..
close enough, eh?

  Yes.
The only exception is the bezier patch. This is the only thing I use moray
for.

: Are you a math snob (an egg is a complex equation, never a stretched
: sphere!)?

  Of course.

: Are you a macro snob (if it can be done with a macro, it must be!)?

Yeah. Why to use an external utility program when you can easyly do it
with a povray macro?

: Are you a physics snob (the IOR of water is 1.332, fool! Not 1.333!!!!)?

Well, that depends on the temperature of the water, you know...

Who is this 'Ray' guy, and what is he tracing? Just wondering...
