Plastering works by Gilles Tran and the other Elder/Outer Gods of PovRay
(obviously Im a fan of HP Lovecraft and Clark Ashton Smith) in forums with
links to povray.org and the artist sites cannot hurt either.

Many folks here have done some really incredible work over the years,
everything from mathematical visualization to architecture and nature.

It is too bad we don't have their scenes to include in the samples coming
with Pov...

I understand the position but if we don't actively care and do something
the community will continue to shrink, and then for what justification will
the developers continue their work? How will we attract new developers when
the original ones retire their grand effort?

There are many ways to effect change. Simply creating and posting beautiful
works which can be picked up by search engines and linked to Pov is one.

The trick is to get the engines to find them and then get people to realize
the work came from pov. Perhaps a small watermark in a corner would work,
since even in image searches people will see it came from Pov.

povray.org is looking very dated... Personally I think it gives the
impression of some very old piece of software that hasn't been updated
for decades. Which is a shame because we know that's not the case.

A lot of exclusive and beautiful work done by users Povray.
Many of the works are unique, but are created using text editors.
People used their own software solutions.
Now very few who want to use a text editor to create 3d-scenes.
Fate Povray in the hands of existing developers. Without them, it is difficult
to change something.
I have seen the future Povray: animation with textures, caustics, blob, CSG,
DF3, cloth, rigid and soft body.
But I have a little knowledge to understand the source code.
I could not write a single patch to speed up the exchange of data between the
Blender-3d and Povray.
I have to wait more experienced programmers who like my idea. :)

Ah! There it is! This has been indeed one of the major complaints:
people (outside of POV-Ray) do not want to create using text editors
(any more). They consider this to be some kind of digital prehistoric
way of modelling. If you are cool you certainly do not do it that way.
We are not neanderthals any more after all. ;-)

That's the claim - yet while Moray and Bishop3D, etc have suffered, POV-Ray has
endured and indeed has steadily improved.

Society: "Be yourself."
You: {commence being yourself}
Society: "Not THAT way!!!"

Oh, after 70 years, have you evolved? ;) :D

Yes, but Blender is striving for instance.

I now use my fists instead of a stone to type POV-Ray code... ;)

I will not argue.

I did not go for full automation of the way.

However, kicking to the moon is not reached. Even if very much to believe in
yourself. Conservatism - not the way of the future. Yes! You're a talented
artist!
How many people you teach work in Povray?
I'm not talking about the forum.
I do not speak ill of the Povray and its users.
I wish you success!
I say that you do not want to evolve with the times. You do not want to adopt
modern techniques.
Talk about some Moray (50 kilobytes of source code)
Folder Blender in Linux - 380 megabytes. Problem: y instead of z, z instead of y
:))))
Keys for any parameter animation textures, vertex keys; bones; dozens of
modifiers and deformers ... plus your manually code or
your manually code plus keys for any parameter animation textures, vertex keys;
bones; dozens of modifiers and deformers...
It all can not help you and your students?
You will not be surprised by a man who shaves with an ax?

:)))

If we are going to play that game.

I can type with my fingers and thumb scrunched into a point.
(The user keyboards, of the phototypesetting machines I worked on in the
70s, were made for people who had worked on hot metal machines. They
were stiff.)
