  Purely out of curiosity: Why?

(I ask this because it makes little sense to me. VLC, like mplayer, is
quite notorious for its extensive and high-quality support for a very
wide variety of video and audio formats, so there's a high probability
that it will play almost anything you throw at it, if it's a video file.
And it's not like it would *replace* WMP. You would have it alongside
it, so you can always *choose* which one to use. Thus I honestly don't
see any logical reason to avoid trying VLC.)

Like Warp said, you can use it alongside your usual app. I do.

It comes up in Quicktime on my Windows XP SP3, and plays OK. But I've forgotten
how I changed the default MPEG player to QT. :-( WMP gives me trouble with some
other formats, too. (BTW, I downloaded the xvid codec package today; will be
using that from now on to compress my own animations into MPEG. Seems to be of
excellent quality.)

I like the animation, especially the look of the foam. My only suggestion would
be to speed up the action 2-3 times. Kind of slow as-is.

Exactly because of that: I do not *want* two things for the same job. Probably
because I'd hate having to adapt to different UIs on a daily basis.

And, having all my mp3 collection in WMP's media library, and having gotten
accustomed to how it's operated, I'd prefer that one single thing to be the
WMP, not some new piece of software.

Yeah. I forgot to mention that I was using VLC.

Works nicely here both from within Firefox itself or with Totem, let alone more
robust Mplayer and Vcl. The WMP in my father's older XP box wouldn't even play
mp3, a barebones piece of crap. :P

No, he can't. He's on a moral crusade about the immoral FSF advances. ;)

Well, if you willingly want to succumb to resistance to change, then I
suppose you'll have to suffer WMP's deficiencies.

It still doesn't make sense to me, but that's just me.

:P

No, he's just too lazy to learn the UI of two apps doing just about the same.

I imagine it's just perfectly normal inertia as one grows older... (can't
compete with some other guys here yet, but anyway, me I've never been older
before than today :))
