Running Povray RC6 Intel under Windows XP Home Edition (Pentium 4), I came
upon this little problem : the mouse wheel doesn't work (no scrolling) when
several files are open in the Povray editor. It works as expected when only
one file is open, and it works always as expected under Windows NT. It took
me a while to figure out this one, as I believed at first that the problem
was random.

I tried this on XP Pro and it didn't happen. I don't have XP Home.

Can anyone else replicate this problem ?

Can't check at the moment but this notebook's touchpad has scrollability and
is fine. I'll get back about the scroll wheel mouse soon.

Having NT at work and XP at home with scroll mice has taught me that
the defaults are different under NT vs XP. In NT the window under the
mouse gets focus automatically, under XP you have to have the window
in front for the scroll function to work!

I've checked it out using my Logitech scroll wheel mouse on PS/2 port and
it's okay. Well, it apparently is working through the Synaptics Touchpad
driver somehow so not sure if this is a good test. Better if somebody else
using XP Home and a PC were to check on it.

If the program or web page has multiple window frames the cursor can be
hovering over the area to pick up on the scrolling. Since POV-Ray doesn't
have anything like that I can only try one open file at a time. I have 30
open though. It definitely isn't able to shift among program Windows here.

I'd say check the old Hardware Acceleration setting if XP still had it but I
don't know if it does.

Additional info : the scrolling in the message window always work, even when
it doesn't in the file windows.

I neglected to give the Message window a try before. It does scroll while it
is viewed alone but didn't when seen below the opened files in the editor,
via the Alt M toggle. Can't remember if it was able to scroll there before.
Checking it over here I couldn't find a way to switch attention over to that
message pane.

The problem - as I have - with the mouse wheel is that it sometimes gets handled by
the
wrong scrollbar.

If one of the windows have both vertical and horizontal scrollbars, the mouse wheel
normally scrolls vertically. If I then moves the POV application to the right until
the
vertical scrollbar gets hidden by the screen edge, I often gets horizontal scrolling.

The message window of course always performs correctly, since it hasn't any horizontal
scrollbar.
