We are unsing povray to develop a free role-playing game of highest
quality - and perhaps you are interested in helping us...
Our project is named "The Tales of Trolls and Treasures" and was founded to
create a role-playing game in which everyone can create his own stories,
adventures, characters, monsters or even spell effects - or just play the
games others created.
The game project is programmed in C++ and uses DirectX for windows. Maybe
later on, it will be transferred to Linux. If you want to see how far the
development has come until now, please follow this link to the screenshots
(http://www.rpg-project.com/pages/shots.htm).
All graphics are generated and animated in PovRay. We have human figures
which were animated with povray and are able to walk until now, but not
more, yet. We got really cool trees and plants and are about to include the
first items we created. But the more people help us, the more complex our
game will get...
We know, there are some great povray-artists out there, and we would be
happy, if some of them would join our project!

I don't know about joining any projects, but if you post the items in which
you might be interested and the scale which you are using, I'm sure that
some of the people on this board will be able to find some suitable things
in their scene folders.

It's not just a board.
It's a POV-Community.

You should use SDL instead of DirectX it will make porting a lot easier
and you nearly got the same features!

When saying "join", I didn't mean "become a member" and pay lots of money
or something :o) Helping us a bit by sending some objects would be already
great.
Indeed, we need all kinds of items: knifes, swords, axes, bows, crossbows,
helbards, armors, shields, helms ... anything you can imagine taking place
in a role playing game. Besides, we need objects like torches, dungeon
walls, ground textures, houses, tables, chairs...
All in all, we need anything which could be part of a fantasy world. Of
course, anyone who sends us some objects we can use will be mentioned on a
"credits" part of our page!

Our game project is not really 3D. We use a 2D game engine and all grafics
are pre-rendered. So DirectX is quite suitable, because it allows high frame
rates by less programming effort. Of course, it's a bit more complex than
copying all grafics together on screen. We use some nice tricks to separate
the objects from their shadows and so on.

I think it could be worth to specify some general rules of designing. For
example if you want houses then specify size of module in grid of your scenery
and add comment: house should be 2x2 or 1x3, castle should be 4x5 or 6x7 etc.
It could be also interesting to send as enviroment parameters: global light at
day, global light at night etc. This task looks similiar to POV-City - just
destination is more useful. Look for POV-City specification in this group:

Actually, there'll be a more up-to-date, useful and interesting set of
specs on my site as soon as I get rid of this flu. I'll keep y'all
posted.

Aargh! I made a post about tapestry menus for this thing, but
accidentally deleted it! Please tell me there's some way to retrieve it;
it had lots of nice ASCII-art. :(
