Install "brew".
   https://brew.sh/
Install XCode and Apples command line utilities from App store.
Type in terminal
    brew install povray
This will (at the time of writing) get you the command line version 3.7.0.10_14

Otherwise current beta 3.8 builds cleanly from source.
