Actually, I'm using POVTree, now that you mention it, and it is a mesh.  The
actual TomTree blob macro may work better so I might try that.  I'll also try
increasing the mesh size to see what happens.  The current mesh is only 30 MB
or so.  So far it only seems to be (noticably) a problem with the "twigs".
