A portal is an area defined by the user. This area is sampled in priority during
the shoot of rays. If a portal is put around a small light source, it will speed
up the evaluation of the direct lighting (for instance for sharp shadows). A
portal on a window helps the rays shooted from inside of a room to reach the
outside lights. A portal around a glass ball may help to build the caustic (but
in these case the results are not so good).
