Doesn't look too bad, maybe try to deform it slightly using scale or 
by making it out of blobs etc. 

A couple of years ago there were lots of eyes done round here, so I'm 
sure that there will be some really decent stuff that you can use that's
in povray.binaries/text.scene-files and also see the images in this group.

I'm not sure when exactly this was, but there was big clust of the done
all within a month or so of eachother as people swapped ideas to get 
the perfect eye.
