/usr/share/vim/syntax/syntax.vim should contain lines that look like this:
" Povray
au BufNewFile,BufRead *.pov,*.inc so $VIM/syntax/pov.vim
or at least it does on my system. But I don't use vim, so I don't know
whether that works.
