I am having problems with animations in POV-Ray 3.6 on Windows Vista (Home
Ed.).
When I try to run any animation with multiple frames, i.e. with instructions
like these in the INI file:
; Set up parameters for animation
Initial_Frame = 1
Final_Frame = 5
Initial_Clock = 1
Final_Clock = 5
POV-Ray gets stuck (i.e. the rendering window is not opened and the program
stops responding). It works normally if animations are not requested. I've
tried also running the animations provided with POV-Ray installation with
identical results. The most weird thing is that I used the animations
several times succesfully and then it suddenly stopped working. I had also
installed the (unofficial) MegaPOV patch, for I needed it for depth map
generation, but it has been working with animations and the patch without
issues for at least a day. I tried to use the non patched executable too,
with identical results.
Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks.

I have the same problem in Vista. The code runs perfectly in XP. I don't know
why.

What happens if you suppress the render window?

I am having the same problem, and it repros with the render
window suppressed.
Strangely I was able to do an animation earlier; the first time
I had a problem, I had just tried to set Initial_Frame to 0. I
don't know if that's related but I now cannot get any animation
to render, even ones which worked earlier.

I have run into the exact same problem with Version 3.6 on Windows Home Premium
Vista. It worked once, the same .ini file stopped working with the slightly
modified .pov file. I tested the .pov file on its own to make sure it renders
okay, before entering clock variable related animation logic.
Has there been a solution to this problem yet?
Thanks

I've just encountered this problem too.
Animation worked OK. Got a full set of frames.
Then the next day after changing the final frame setting, animations just hung
as described in earlier postings in this thread. Single still frame reneders
work OK.
Now I can't get ANY animation renders to work. Tried rebooting, uninstalling and
reinstalling, fiddling with various INI settings - all to no avail.

I had the same problem. It corrected itself after some time. Never knew what
caused the problem, nor what made it go away. At the time, I could only do
animations using the early 3.7 betas.
