I am unable to install POVray on my Windows XP Pro SP2 computer: The install
cannot start and reports an error:
"Install program does not match expected size of <Size> but instead measures
of <size>. Install aborted."
(I have inserted <size> because I cannot remember the exact size it
reported)
Why does it generate this error, and how can I stop it?

Try downloading it again? You probably have an incomplete download.

Ok, re-downloading seems to work. SO why did it crash before: it said it was
fully downloaded, and the program had its icons, resources and version
details etc. - ???
Thanks for the help,
David

That is something you have to ask your browser vendor. The povray.org
server has no influence over what your browser tells you about a file you
download. The povray.org server also has no way of preventing an incomplete
download or reporting errors to you while downloading - only your browser
can check this as it is the only piece of software running on your computer
knowing what the status of the file you download is. When the Windows
Explorer sees the file you downloaded, even if it is just partial, it may
well be that enough data was transmitted to make the file valid for Explorer
and it can even show an icon. However, it has no way of knowing what is
really contained in the file.

It may be a problem on your side.
It may be a problem with your ISP.
It may be a problem somewhere between the server and your ISP.
Those problems are transitory in nature: a packet lost in transit, the count of
packets got altered,
the EOF value got corrupted,...
