Does anyone know how to put sound in Fast Movie Processor when making an
AVI? DO I have to change the animation file type to something not AVI?
Would MPG support sound? All my sound tabs and options are greyed out
when I make an AVI.

AFAIK, AVI stands for "Audio Video Interweave", so audio should definitely
be possible. Haven't got a clue about FMP tho... :-(

of course this goes.. - if you own video
editing software that knows how.

i dont know about fmp (never used it), but
i work on ulead media studio and videowave
- no prob there, just insert the audio track
where you want it, just as video tracks.

maybe there is a cheap alternative to these
admittedly pricey ones?

What's best to use for compiling POV-Ray output to low quality
movies/animations for the Web?

I like Cmpeg best of all for the quick answer to that, although it's a
rather crude DOS utility. Apparently not everyone has Mpg decoders
though (hard to believe, I know). So Avi instead, if highly
compressed, could be okay. And VidEdit does well enough for both the
sound and image frames. Since I get by okay with those I don't feel
the need to use other things, though there are other things....
I think there are quite a few Flc capable players still around too so
if 256 color and relatively small files is an option then DTA (Daves
Targa Animator) can do them fine. But then that's probably not too
browser friendly, not sure of it.
Don't think you can go wrong with Avi if done right (that means common
codec and all).

For myself, I've been using Axogon Composer. It's not very fancy, but it
does the trick of putting your POV outputs into AVI, MPEG, and something
else... plus adding sound is no sweat. There's a link to it in the POVray 3d
utilities area, I believe.

I finally used Avi2Mpg1 and it's GUI partner
 http://www.mnsi.net/~jschlic1/avi2mpg1/avi2mpg1.htm ) to convert the
Doubt90.Avi file (at p.b.a. group) and it works well except for a
final somewhat garbled frame. The sound goes into the Mpg just fine
it seems.
Going to check out that Axogon Composer. ftp://ftp.povray.org is
where that's at I suppose, well I'll start looking there. Nope, just
looked. You can get it here: http://www.davecentral.com/7731.html and
from what I can tell so far it's great for being only "freeware" (Win
9*/NT).

Well why didn't he s a y so? hee-yuk.
I'm not used to that new set of links on the main povray page yet.
It's a good thing you can get there from the actual "* Links" buttons
on the left there or I'd be lost.

Sorry 'bout that. Couldn't remember the URL off the top of my head, and
didn't feel like digging for it in my History. In any case, the URL for it
is http://www.axogon.com

Like he said, it's probably not the greatest movie compiler, but it is free
and it does the job.
