Ok when I downloaded the emacs povmode off the official website
(http://www.acc.umu.se/~woormie/povray/) I had some problems with the render
commands (ie the povray command not found) Not sure if my povray distro is
to blame or the mode (my guess is both) my temproary fix was to create a
povray file in /usr/local/bin (location of my povray executables) and
sym-linked to x-povray. Thought this might help some folks that got the same
distro of the povray linux version I had (the one minus the povray
executable). Though if some one would/could update the mode to possibly
having x-povray as the commmand (or even possibly a choice between x-povray
and s-povray) it would be even more helpful. I'd do it myself except for the
fact that I know nothing about emacs lisp modes.

Actually it's customizable and defaults to 'povray', if in Xemacs you
can
get to the povray customization by entring the the optionsmenu then
follow
these menus:
customize->emacs->programming->languages->pov->Povray Command
almost the same goes for emacs but you you enter the customization
through
the helpmenu and then you have to figure out how to follow the groups
mentioned for xemacs, a menuitem in xemacs is the same as a group in
emacs.

just enter the command you want to use there, there you can also change
the
default commandline options for rendering.
