Maybe, but you can post to p.b.s-f with attachments. That's one of the
reasons it's there. ;-)

Povray.binaries.scene-files group. You may find it easier to point a
newsreader in the direction of news.povray.org and download the groups.

Look man I cant do that since my company firewall has blocked the outgoing
to news servers...

Now I wonder why can't you just help me out to solve my problem giving it
priority over configuring a newsreader. In the link I've posted many times
the actual ZIP files are aviable. Just go there and grab them for analysis
if you want to help me.

Dude, chill out. You're the one asking for help, so it's in your best
interest to work within the established framework. It is not in your best
interest to demand that the community bend to your will and way of
working. That's now how online communities work.

Nobody's *entitled* to help (unless you've paid for it, that's a different
matter), and being discourteous to those who can help you is a surefire
way to get people to NOT help you.

I know after seeing this reply to St., I'd certainly not be inclined to
help you even if I had the skills or knowledge. Getting pissed at people
who *can* help you is a surefire way to get added to a twit filter.

Often times in online communities, when asking about something, it's not
good form to post a link to another set of communities (particularly to an
attachment to a message). Discussion ensues about the linked file, and
then the linked file disappears. What then? Someone sees an answer that
might work for their question, but the referenced file/image/whatever
isn't there anymore, so there's no way to find out. So the community has
to suffer because someone couldn't figure out how to (or how to ask nicely
how to) post the file locally so it's not going to vanish at the whim of
some other systems administrator.

Another issue is that if you link to a file in a remote community, if they
require registration, well geez, now I gotta register on a site I'm never
going to use in order to help this guy out? I don't think so - he's the
one who wants help, it's up to the guy who's asking the question to make
it convenient for me to help him out.

Whether the Nvidia forums require registration or not is completely
irrelevant, so don't even go there. If I had to figure out each and every
different set of forums' rules for whether registration was required to
download a file/read a message/whatever for every message posted, I'd give
up and go find something else to do. So that ain't happening. You could
give me your login and password and I still wouldn't go there. Too damned
much hassle when there's a completely viable and workable solution: Post
to the group indicated where I know I can access the file.

You don't need port 119 access to post files. If you ask nicely, maybe
someone will walk you through it so you can get the help you desire.

If you want help from an online community, you gotta work within the
framework of the community, whether you like it or not. Berating those
who have the skills and abilities to help you is a surefire way to prevent
you from getting the help you want.

I have to agree with you.
I wasn't pissed at Steve, he just felt aggravated for what I said. I can
post atachments ouside my company, using Outlook as a newsreader, and In
this particular case I seriously doubt Nvidia forums would go down, at
least for long, and no they dont ask you to register to see what I posted,
you can get in and do what I ask without login in.

Besides, whats in your best interest as a contributor to POV-RAY? To
developed it, so why don't look for integration with world proved, time
tested, modelers like 3dsMax/Viz, wouldn't it be great to compete against
Mental Ray, AIR, and VRAY? Still basing in GNU. I don't see the point of
helping each other if you're gonna get offended and don't find workarounds
for things. If so, then you're right, go find something better to do than
getting pissed off.

Anyways, the policies you claim are completely reasonable.
I just dont see the point of posting a question and not getting the answer
when I provided a means to you to see my questions.

Again:
Just go here:
http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=19820

try to download WITHOUT LOGGING in...see what happens...

Anyway my suggestion is, once you get the means get a fully workable web
based forum system.

On other thing.

Just so you see I am accustomed to work in collaboration:

I have used these same means (NVIDIA Forums) to work with the 3D win
people(the exporter form .ASE to .POV) and they say is a problem with the
Demo version. I'm still conducting tests with them and will draw to a
conclusion soon.

Look in sourceforge.net for 3dsmax, there are some libraries in C for
developing exporting plugins. Pherhaps you expect some day to do some
professional work with 3dsmax and serve some architects/designers.

I mean Pov-RAy is already in some Grids, it supports distributed rendering
through MegaPov XRS and yes is independent from the modeler. That would be
Its biggest peak over some renderers like VRAY which needs 3dsmax/VIZ to
work.

Feel free to contact me for col### [at] einarcoutin@gmail.com

Cheers

No, not really, it was more the way you said it. All I was doing was
telling you what p.b.s-f is and thought that you might not be seeing it on
the website so suggested the newsreader route (without knowing you couldn't
access the groups whilst being at work). And then you replied to me with the
'man' thing. ;)

Yeah, I checked and the last time I looked you had 4 downloads of each
file, so someone is interested. Maybe you'll get your answer yet.

Hey, try being a Wings modeller around here! I tell you, it's like
walking on broken glass - you *have* to tread SO carefully! ;)

No, they're a great bunch of guys and girls, and I don't think there's one
that hasn't helped someone else at their time of need.

I don't see the point of

Trust me, nobody gets offended, but that's the point, the guys around
here do find workarounds for a lot of things from all kinds of code to the
actual pov website - if someone knows something that will make life easier
for someone else, it's usually shared, low level to top level and back.

If so, then you're right, go find something better to do than

Yep, Jim is bang on with his reply.

But you've had at least 4 downloads of each file, (unless it was you and
your mates, checking on different systems). ;)
