The intro starts with a beautifully rendered cut-scene. It's a pity the
rest of the game won't look as good as this, I think to myself. Oh wait,
it's an interactive cut-scene...
=)

Your platform would be an interesting piece of information.

I forgot you get it on consoles now :)
QuadCore Q9400
Radeon HD 5770
4Gb Ram
I see there's a highres texturepack and a DX11 tessellation patch to
download to make it even better.

Sweet! The PC I'm building is better than that, so I should be able to
actually run this.
(It still amuses me that my current PC can easily handle HalfLife 2,
CounterStrike: Source, Team Fortress 2, Assassin's Creed, and it can
even run Crysis, but it utterly fails to cope with Batman: Arkum Asylum,
a game with nowhere near the graphical firepower of most modern games...)

I gather that the DX11 update does a tad more than just tessellation. It
enables a whole chockload of DX11 tricks and enhancements.

My graphics are set to maximum, so you definitely won't have any problem
running it :)
I heard a rumour that Crysis 2 can run on a lower spec machine than
Crysis, I doubt it's true though...

It can be true, if you have the option of using lower settings almost
everywhere.

Even more strange: A friend of mine says he has 2 systems 1 running Vist
a
and the other slightly higher spec running win7 64bit. He says it runs
better on the Vista machine.

That's not especially strange.
I've seen game benchmarks where a quad-SLI system (which theoretically
should be 4x faster) comes out a few percent *slower* than a single GPU
system. I've seen processor benchmarks where older designs with lower
specs perform better than newer ones. It depends on what the task is.

It's definitely true. I still can't run Crysis smoothly, but the sequel
benchmarks fine on my machine.
How's the gameplay though? Is it fun?

This.
According to ZP, the game environment is less open-plan, which "makes it
ludicrously easy to steath straight past half of the enemies".
