I am not Steeleye Span. It's sad, but it's true.
Due to this incontrovertible fact, this was the best I could manage:

It's not great, but never mind. Rejoice!
PS. I recorded this about 10 minutes ago. In my car, in a layby down the
road. This was the first take. (There *is* a second chorus, but I cut it
because it doesn't sound very good.)

Nice one!
Some echo effect might help to come closer to the "original"(*). Also,
you /do/ have to somehow coax some lass to sing along. Don't care where
you find one. Kidnap one if you must ;)
(*Heck, why do I even bother to use quotes there? Said version /is/, for
all intent and purpose, the original ;))
Did I ever mention that I /love/ polyphonic accapella music?

Thanks.
This song is actually harder than I expected. For a start, the top line
is a bit too high for my voice. I can easily sing it starting from A3,
but to be able to fit the harmonies in, it needs to up go an octave.
That's rather uncomfortable for me. So here I'm singing in G-minor
instead, which makes a surprisingly big difference.
The other thing - and this I did not realise - is that the meter
alternates between 4/4 and 6/4 time. Which makes it near-impossible to
build a suitable click track. So there's that.
Also, having a surprising amount of trouble with breath control. And I'm
not really sure why. This doesn't *sound* like it should be
challenging... but it is. I don't get why.
Still, being slightly rough around the edges makes it sound slightly
more "authentic", no? :-} Well, that's my story and I'm sticking to it! :-P

Heh, I could probably coax my singing teacher into accompanying me. Her
voice type would fit well too...

I took up singing lessons FOR A REASON. ;-)
I, too, love the sound of big block vocal harmonies. I love ABBA, the
Beach Boys, old doo-wop music, choir music, anything.
Unfortunately, I will never be as awesome as any of these luminaries. :-(

Not a lot one can say about that. ^ ^
Not bad though.

Yeah. Other than that I need to find a better recording studio.
Somewhere I can *stand up*. And not be freezing cold. Because both of
those are highly limiting when it comes to trying to sing.

Thanks. :-)

Isn't that one of the reasons you bought your own flat?

I don't know if I should thank you. I had the Flying Pickets going
through my head for hours. ;-)

Nah. The walls are made of cardboard. I can clearly hear my neighbours,
so there's little reason to suppose they can't hear me.

There are worse fates in life ;)
Presuming, of course, that your head provided more space for them than
just their 1983 hit.
This one, for instance, smells like fun:

Sorry but after listening to that and about 20 minuets of you tube.
Colour me hard to please. I would rather listen to mouth music or the
Irish lilting, even.
