Yes I heard about it now that you mention it.
It is typical. The Tory bar stewards don't care how much inconvenience
they cause the working man if they can turn a profit.
Hell mend those who voted for Johnson. IMO, If you don't mind :-)

I see. Well, having done the reverse, I can tell you that it was a good
call on our part, even though they did get the traffic issues sorted out
so getting around town was reportedly not bad. But the office I was
based out of was a block from where they were doing the awards
ceremonies, so getting in there would've been a PITA regardless.

So far it's slated to go through Dec 31 - but who knows what that might
lead to.
I've got some ideas as to why the new product was on the list of things
to work with. It might have something to do with the fact that it's used
for managing the testing environment for the other product. :)
And keeping my mind active - yeah, today was like that. Spent time
working with a SAML 2.0 connector for Apache that hadn't been touched/
updated in years, and got it completely working about 10 minutes ago with
the current build of the software.
I *love* doing this kind of stuff, and the feeling of accomplishment that
comes with figuring something out.

That's what you (they) get for voting a New Yorker into the mayor's
office. Especially one whose hair, if trained by Donald Trump, would be
an improvement. ;)

I think the word buffoon suits him.

LOL
Though I have to say his rejoinder to one of our presidential candidates'
demonstrated skills of dealing with people outside the US was quite
good. ;)

Indeed, break a leg. :-)

All I can do is what I can do - unfortunately, all hiring decisions are
going to the CEO at present. Even internal transfers are difficult if
there's a pay adjustment, I hear.
But 5 months should give them some time to get the hurdles cleared, I
hope. The engineering manager said if it were up to him, I'd be back on
as staff already.

A very good feeling. I took a component last week (first week back, no
less) that hadn't been touched since 2010 and got it working without any
major issues. Had to ask one of the developers a couple questions, but
it was really good to take something that had been abandoned after
version 1.0 and figure out how to get it working in the upcoming 1.6
release. :)

I preferred Dave Cameron's remark about it being easy to do in the
middle of nowhere. It will be interesting to see how many friends were
made by nbc cutting the Olympic memorial to the London bombings.

Oh, yes, I liked that as well. As well as Mayor Becker's (the mayor of
SLC) rejoinder that he'd be happy to provide your PM with a map of "the
middle of nowhere" so he doesn't get lost - and a list of things he'll
find in Utah that you won't find in the UK. :)
I'm glad I was able to watch the BBC version of the ceremonies - very
little in the way of "you Americans are too stupid to understand the
references so we'll talk over the music that you obviously don't care
about to explain the things that anyone with a modicum of Google-fu can
find out on their own".
