It's like writing an email using only capital letters. Technically,
there's no problem with doing that. But socially, it's frowned on.

Generally the only people who drive around in daylight with their
headlights on are people with expensive cars who turn their lights on to
let you know that they're important and you should get out of their way.
In other words, arrogant morons with lots of money. Obviously, nobody
wants to be mistaken for those guys...

So you would decrease safety in order to make yourself not look like a
hipster? Makes sense how?

Decrease my safety by 0.00000024%?

Yeah, I think I can live with that.

Do you honestly think that in many countries headlights must be always on
while driving because it increases safety by 0.00000024%?

Um, no, at least here in the US, cars manufactured in the last 10 years
or so have headlights that automatically come on when you start the
engine.

You're mistaken.

One of the key things that helps people not be in accidents is *being
seen*.

I can't tell you the number of times I've seen total morons driving after
dark with their lights off - and it's damned near impossible to see them
much of the time.

Jim

Fortunately, such stupidity hasn't yet reached this country...

(Or at least, not in any great numbers.)

Driving *after dark* without lights is suicidal. But that's not what
we're debating. We're talking about driving with your lights on in broad
daylight, when you can't even see the lights. By definition, something
that you can't see cannot possibly affect whether people see you.

Oh my God, it ran out of fuel...

Now on a normal car, there's a fuel gage. On some cars, a little light
also comes on when fuel is low. (Usually not nearly as low as you think
it is, mind you...) But on *this* car... Jesus Chris! First a light
started flashing - I emphasize, *flashing*. Second, a graphic appeared
on the LCD, also flashing. And third, all of the mileage counters and so
forth disappeared to be replaced by *flashing* text repeatedly saying
"FILL...UP!...FILL...UP!...FILL...UP!"

Clearly this car is designed to be driven by morons. Or maybe doddering
old pensioners who have a 3-second memory capacity...
