At home I've got a box of those 8cm CD-Rs. They're really great for when
I've just put a tune together, and I want to show people, but I don't
really want to waste an entire 80 minute CD-R just for a 2-minute track.

The disks weren't expensive, but do you have *any idea* how hard it is
to find anywhere that sells them?? Even the mighty Google can't find any
shops I've actually heard of that sell them...

That was my first thought, yes. (Indeed, that's where I bought the
current lot from.)

Where on that list can you see 8cm CDs?

Let's blame Jet Lag. I got up 4:30 local time Thursday and went to bed
10:00 pm the next day. Take off the seven hours time zone difference and
that is still ~30 hours awake. :-(

I think that you will need to buy from the internet.

If you want to buy in person there is a shop in Whitechapel that will
probably order them for you. It is on the corner of Whitechapel High St
and Brick Lane. My wife has bought all sorts of HI-Fi stuff from them.
(DAT tapes, Metal Cassettes etc.) They don't have them advertised on
their site but they are friendly and it is right next door to some of
the best Indian (Bangladeshi) food in London.

Have we really progressed from googling for Andrew to online-shopping for
Andrew? ;-)

Try doing a search for "Mini CD" rather than "8cm CD". You'll probably
get more results. It seems that the physical size wasn't 'standardised',
and they range in size from 2.4" to 3.1".

I found:

hl=en&safe=off&biw=1280&bih=886&gs_upl=3319l3319l0l3998l1l1l0l0l0l0l236l236l2-1l1l0&q=

for example. $26 for a spindle of 100 of them.

I've seen square ones designed to substitute for business cards.

I've seen square (or rather, rectangular) ones with data on them, but
I've never seen them for sale blank.

The size was standardised. That's why all tray-load CD drives have 2
wells, one at 120mm and another at 80mm. A disk any other size wouldn't
fit into the smaller well properly.

I'm still having trouble finding any sellers that I've actually heard of...
