Type each word into dict.cc (it's gedacht by the way) and then you get a
little speaker icon on the right where you can hear a human saying the word
(for most words, computer generated for others).

Wikipedia and the online organ stop dictionary concur.

Hey, I'm only telling you what's physically written on the knob! ;-)

Oh that's *so* helpful! :-P

I've recorded it, but need a little help on attaching it to a newsgroup
post. What was again the name of the linux program to encode such stuff?

...so there you have it then. Quite conclusively.

Thanks. ;-)

Now, if anybody has a clue what the correct pronounciation for
"Diapason" is... (Even though that's English, I'm not sure exactly how
it's supposed to be pronounced.)

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/diapason

  That site has audio files for most of the words.

What, you mean like the way "telephone" is Greek? ;-)

"English: A language that hides in dark corners waiting to mug other
language, rifle through their pockets and steal spare vocabulary."

I actually find it really fascinating to learn about the history of English
words. Whilst learning German it is surprising how many words are actually
German words in disguise (once you know a few "rules").

eg

Tag -> Day  (T -> D and G -> Y rule)
Apfel -> Apple (F -> P rule)
Gelb -> Yellow (G -> Y rule again, plus b -> w)
Gestern -> Yesterday (G -> Y rule again)
habe -> have
Tuer -> Door
Gott -> God

etc...
