I lost the taste for real ales during a period when they tasted worse than my
home brew. Now because I travel a lot I’ll drink the local version of lager. I
like Stella and I liked Star in Nigeria, I’ll drink VB if I can get it but I
usually stick to Red Stripe. When I was working at D&G I promised to keep
drinking it to help their economy. That is true and it is one promise that I
will keep as long as I can. (Thanks Jenny) :)
As a side effect I don’t like the “heavy” (a type of beer) I used to drink when
I lived in Scotland.

I prefer the whiskies from the east coast the ones that are not peaty, like
Glenmorangie and The Famous Grouse for blended. I like drinking beer with
whisky (our half and a half) as you shouldn’t drink spirits to quench your
thirst. But then I don’t get hangovers, except around the belt :)

What I was told was; one relaxes you, two simulates you, more keeps you awake.

Depends on whether the "more talk" translates into "saying things I
shouldn't" - something else I don't understand about some people who say
they didn't know what they were doing. How can you not know what you're
doing?

Yeah, some people are fortunate that way. I don't drink like I used to
any more, so I also don't have hangovers any more...

Fortunately mostly the same old garbage with only the odd 'you shouldn't
have said that'.

Alcohol inhibition between short-term and long-term memories? Didn't they
do tests on drunken goldfish?

I don't tend to mix drinks, which I note others seem to do so may well be
a factor.

I dunno, but then again, goldfish supposedly have short memories
(something the Mythbusters disproved, but anyways.....)

There is an old saying “Never mix the grape with the grain”.
And as far as moderation goes; Moderation in all things including moderation. So
get wasted occasionally.
That’s what has kept me going these past few millennium :)

hmmm .... Here's a clue the "vile" stuff you were drinking is called ethanol.

It is one of the polar protic laboratory solvents. It easily causes brain (CNS)
damage. As for the "buzz", it not a buzz worth having. It is my opinion if one
likes the incapacitating effect, they must be sick.

the warning labels here say: drink responsibly.

No death tolls from alcohol,
no mention of the damage it will do to you,
will be found on the label.

drink responsibly means not at all.

After the second time I got so drunk I was sick, I decided that was the
best option for me.

I limit myself to one or two drinks when going out somewhere, but rarely
drink at home any more. Occasionally G&T, Margarita, or glass of wine,
and the very occasional beer.

Probably all told I have a couple of drinks a month unless I'm traveling
for work - then if I'm eating out, I'll have something with dinner.

Mexico isn't part of the United States (in Spanish, "Los Estados Unidos"
refers to the United States of America - and ask any Mexican if that
includes Mexico and you're likely to get laughed out of the country).

Sorry I thought Mexico was a republic with 31 states and could therefore
be refered to as the United States of Mexico.

I meant it humorously, the assumption that America means the USA and not
the continent in the same context that the United States also means
America and not Mexico.

That's basically all I do, except replace the G&T with V&T. I drink it
soley for taste, not effect. I make Margarita Sours for Woman, but it's not
very often now. You can keep Tequila and Cointreau in the freezer and
because of their high Alc. content, they don't freeze, even at -15 C, though
there'll be a rime of ice on the outside of the bottle.

Vodka has a taste? I thought vodka was what you spiked the punch with at
a party because it's basically neutral.

Gin on the other hand...

Yes vodka has a taste, try it straight up, straight from the freezer.
Also there are varieties of vodka flavoured with herbs. It is subtle, though.

Gin on the other hand is a girlies drink <ducks and runs very fast :)>

Of course... the flavored vodkas. They have to infuse it with something
to give it some taste.

Then why did my wife make a face when she tried a sip of my G&T? :D It
takes a real man to appreciate the resinous flavor of Gin :D

Because she has good taste and doesn’t like drinking perfume :)

I prefer mine to be flavoured with Red Bull :-)

You can get some extraordinary vodkas from scandinavia and eastern
europe that have distinct smooth flavours. They're often very strong,
too, but I find this has no effect on taste.

Ethanol is not very tasty. :-/

Whether considered flavoured or not, I use Smirnoff. That's it. Adds some
sharpish bitterness back to the tonic water, which too often is muffled by
being sweetened, a stupid manufacturer's practice that masks the whole point
of quinine's own dry bitter-sweetness.

Food and bev manufacturers of all kinds need a bloody good bust around the
chops, because it seems almost all of them refuse to sell any food to you
without first dousing it in sugar (or artificial substitutes) and/or fat.

But they're remarkably honest and virtuous when making pet food.

Uh-oh, "change of subject". Move on folks, nothing to see here.

True it’s not a strong taste but I find that it does have one. Once a long time
ago when I was working in Croatia, one of my fellow workers brought in some
home made vodka flavoured with cannabis.
But I prefer a bite to my spirits, (Flavoured with thistles :)

Well, it is, but in Mexico, the residents there don't call it "Los
estados unidos de Mexico", but rather just "Mexico". "Los estados
unidos" is reserved specifically for the USA. :-)

Funnily enough, I was speaking to someone last night who had been offered

I'd rather have this bottle in front of me, than a frontal lobotomy.
