I've just upgraded my computer to Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition.
When I tried to re-install PovRay I get the following message box:
-------------------------------------------------
Required Component Missing
POV-Ray for Windows requires at least version
4.72 of the Common Control DLL 'comctl32.dll'.
This has not been detected on your system.
This file can be obtained from Microsoft. It
typically comes as part of Internet Explorer v4
or later. It can also be obtained as a
stand-alone installation.
OK Cancel
-------------------------------------------------
Now, my version of comctl32.dll is 5.82.3790.0, I have Internet Explorer v6,
and I ran 50comupd.exe from the Microsoft website and it says that all my
files are up to date.
I copied comctl32.dll to the following locations with no sucess:
C:\
C:\Windows\
C:\Windows\System\
as well as the directory I was istalling from - still no joy.
I even tried installing PovRay 3.1g, but this has the same problem.
Someone please help - I have to have Windows 2003 as part of my job... but I
can't live without PovRay.
Thanks,
Vince.

AFAIK this is handled within WISE installer. I do not know about easy solution
now but you can try as follow:
1. Install POV-Ray on earlier Windows on other machine.
2. Save registry related to POV-Ray.
3. Copy POV-Ray tree into the same location on Win2003
4. Load registry to the same location on Win2003
I did not tried this at all but it would be first thing I could try facing
such problem myself.

Is it in the Windows\System32 subfolder? Mine is there. It is version
5.82.2800.1106, where the 2800 probably means for Windows XP HE SP1 which is
on here.

As far as I know this is a bug in the WISE installer (or possibly a change in
the way that Windows reports the version number, though this is less likely).
I did hear of this from someone else and have already put in a work-around for
the next version (beta out RSN). Firstly it will assume that comctl is up to
date if you're on a recent copy of windows, and secondly even if it thinks it
isn't, it will allow you to install anyhow if you want to.

Thanks for the help everyone - I guess I'll just have to wait for the new
version.
Untill then I'll have to dig out an old laptop or something to run it on. :(
Vince
(P.S. My comctl32.dll is in C:\Windows\system32\ I just didn't include this
in my original posting as it is the standard place where it belongs)

Many thanks to Apache for working out how to do it.
