Anyone who knows how to do it?

I could not find where, probably i'm just too dumb, my cygwin version even
uses the speaker and not the sound card so i can't even turn the volume
down.

The VFAQ suggests '-p', but that does not work. Previous threads in this
group concerning this problem also did not help. Any other command line
option or position in source code would help.

This is taken from the Pvengine.INI file.

[Renderer]
AlertSound=64
Completion=2255
Priority=2305
AlertOnCompletion=1
AutoRender=1
NoShelloutWait=0
SystemNoActive=0

Where you see ----AlertSound=64-----64 is the sound file used.
                        ----AlertOnCompletion=1------1 should be
"true"(ON) and 0 should be "false"(OFF). If you set this value to 0 it
should turn the beep off. Always make a backup of files such as this
just in case, before making changes.

Which, if you mess with it and you break something, you get to keep both
pieces of. Did you fail to notice the Render/On Completion/Do nothing
menu item? What do you suppose that does?

Besides, the question you quoted was about a command-line version, which
won't use pvengine.ini anyway.

Assuming you're basing your cygwin version on the MS-DOS source, try
searching for the word "beep" in msdosvid.c and commenting out that line.
If you're starting with the unix source, I'm afraid I don't have a file
name, but you might try grepping the OS-specific stuff for "\007"

Say it ain't so!

Well, at least you brought some attention to this (really old, btw) post
that had never been satisfactorily answered.

Could you not make this particular mistake (posting in both text and HTML)
again?
